Jessica Jones lost its way after a stellar first season, ultimately making creative decisions with its characters that fans struggled to get on board with. However, Krysten Ritter's performance as the title character couldn't be faulted and neither could what David Tennant brought to the table as Kilgrave, a.k.a. Purple Man.
While the villain's story reached a definitive end after he was killed by Jessica, Kilgrave later returned as a figment of the P.I.'s imagination. Now, with Marvel Studios starting to bring back characters from "The Defenders Saga" after making those Netflix shows canon, will David Tennant finally make his MCU debut?
"I'd love to do Kilgrave again, yeah Kilgrave would be great," Tennant said at the BAFTAs this past weekend (via Covered Geekly). "Yeah, that would be good wouldn’t it?"
The Doctor Who star would go on to add, "I mean...he did very much get his neck broken, he was very dead...but never say never in the Marvel Universe."
Kilgrave ended up being a huge part of the Devil's Reign storyline which saw Daredevil clash with Mayor Wilson Fisk. With that in mind, we can't help but wonder whether Purple Man could somehow make his return in the second half of Daredevil: Born Again, particularly if Jessica ends up getting involved.
The first two episodes of both Jessica Jones and The Defenders were directed by Madame Web helmer SJ Clarkson and, earlier this month, we asked for her thoughts on the shows being made official MCU canon.
"Oh, well that's amazing," Clarkson told us in the video below. "I mean, I have to say, it was my introduction into comics was Jessica Jones. I'd read the script but I'd never actually read Alias. I got the big tomb that was Alias and I loved it. I literally read it and thought, 'This is one of the most clever, brilliant, beautiful [pieces of] storytelling I've seen in a long time.'"
"The way that the characters are portrayed, the framing, the use of cinematic angles in a comic book. And the brevity of storytelling in terms of the dialogue. the narration, and actually getting to the point of what somebody says and what a character really thinks and means in that moment...I thought that was really...that really sparked my interest," she continued.
"Of course, I'm so thrilled to hear that they're canon. Jessica, of course, being my first, I'll always have a special place for her."
