LOKI Actor Richard E. Grant "Blown Away" By Classic Loki Love; Shares New BTS Photo - SPOILERS

We met several new Variants of the God of Mischief in today's episode of Loki, but "Classic Loki" seems to have made the biggest impact. Now, actor Richard E. Grant has responded to the outpouring of love.

Today's penultimate episode of Loki allowed us to spend some quality time with the Variants we met at the end of last Wednesday's installment, and Richard E. Grant's "Classic Loki," in particular, seemed to leave a lasting impression on viewers.

Revealed to be an older version of our God of Mischief who was able to trick Thanos into "killing" a duplicate and making his escape, this world-weary Variant ended up finding his "glorious purpose" by nobly sacrificing himself to give Loki and Sylvie a chance to enchant Alioth and find out who's really pulling the strings of the TVA.

The legendary Withnail and I actor brought his usual charm and gravitas to the role, and fans have evidently been letting him know how much they app0reciated his performance. Grant sent out the following Tweet, which also includes a new behind-the-scenes photo of him in-costume.

It would appear that Classic Loki is gone for good after being erased from existence by Alioth, but the time-twisty nature of this show means there's always a chance we'll see him again at some point - even if it's Grant playing yet another Variant.

Tell us, what did you think of "Journey Into Mystery"? How do you see this first season of Loki wrapping up? Be sure to share your thoughts down below.

@rexlincoln - That movie doesn't get nearly enough love in the US.

@rexlincoln - Saw it maybe 15 years ago, from a list of excellent, but underwatched movies, and loved it. Been a fan of his since as well.

And i believe he also said he came out of hiding because he missed his brother. 😥

@FleischerSupes - Sure did…That really got to me…Older and more conscious of how important relationships are in a persons life…Towards the end of his own life he just wanted to go home to his family…Heartbreaking stuff for sure…

He has been the best part of the show so far. And he has finally achieved his GLORIOUS PURPOSE.

@JayBarrick - Classic Loki was the best part of the show? Do you not like the series so far?
JayBarrick

@JohnCastillo - I expected more. Marvel Studios/Disney+ shows are stricking me as bland so far. Mostly because of the script. They play with ambitious ideas, but they don’t have the guts to exploit them.

Wanda worked nicely around the idea of grieving, but they didn’t work at all the specifics of how “it was Agatha all along”.

Falcon & The Winter Soldier wanted to have a serious approach to racism and wealth distribution. They worked around racism pretty well, although a little to much on the nose. However, wealth distribution was handled really bad. They created an impossible to solve economic problem (twice the population in just a day) and they really didn’t know how to solve that, so they had Sam saying “do better”. Well, Sam, they may do it better, but math is math. If you have twice the population suddenly after 5 years of an economic disaster, no matter how better they do, there is simply no solution. People are going to suffer, a lot, no matter what. It will take decades to settle who has the right to claim a house, a job, or a rent. You can’t just be entitled to say “do better” and call it a day.

As for Loki, so far I was feeling it bland. This last episode made me feel enthusiastic about the series for the first time. So far, I was feeling that the script was just mumbling around, unsure of what to do or say. There were some heavy inconsistencies (like Loki stoping a whole building from collapsing at the end of episode 3 by just waving hands, what was that?). By all means, I’m not saying it is all bad… effects and acting are incredible, production is over the top. It’s the script that I find a little bit not enough. Until this last episode, which was way better.

@JayBarrick - I think the part that really sold his wholehearted personality was how he conjured up a fake Loki of himself, MCU Loki, Kid Loki, and Loki Gator to fight while he opened a portal to escape. He didn't make one of Boastful Loki because he betrayed them.

@JayBarrick - You know what I actually agree with you. I have the same underwhelming feeling about WandaVision and Falcon & The Winter Soldier, I liked them both but felt a little disappointed. Loki is my favourite one so far though, I’ve actually enjoyed it all the way through, although if the last episode doesn’t fulfill expectations then I might look on the show in disappointment too.

@JayBarrick - I agree with you about the first two series, not so much about Loki. Mostly because I'm thoroughly enjoying the character development in it, in which they do dare to go places they didn't with, say, WANDAVISION (the "Agatha all along" of it was a HUGE cop out).

Would have been cool to see classic loki stick around a little bit longer, he's been the best variant so far. He did leave a big impression with the little time he had due to Grant being a great actor. I do wish we got to see Grant and Hiddelstons Lokis have more secens, I like the idea of Loki speaking with an older version of himself.

Classic Loki was phenomenal. I loved his character so damn much. In 40 minutes he became my favorite MCU side character and it sucks so much knowing we may never see him again.

@SonOfAGif - who knows. One thing Lokis do very well is survive.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 7/7/2021, 8:16 PM
@JayBarrick - Which is true. But the actor himself is old and we probably won't see him again in any other MCU property besides a Loki season 2 if that's even a thing or a multiverse movie.

@SonOfAGif - Ummm, old? He's 12 years younger than Michael Douglas and younger than Anthony Hopkins when he started in the MCU by about 8 years. He's plenty young enough to show up again.

@SonOfAGif - Old doesn't matter much if you ain't doing stunts and breaking legs. If you can wear a costume and act you are 'in'!

Cool to think that in some timeline he was in the exact same spot as our Loki, post Ragnarok on board with Thanos, and manages to survive it. Sad to think he hid all those years only to be pruned by the TVA because he missed his brother Thor.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 7/7/2021, 8:17 PM
@SoBeKing - Which proves the theory that the TVA are terrified of every Loki. Because a Loki is a talented liar, shapeshifter, magic user, and so on. If a Loki discovered the truth about the sacred timeline or branches in reality it can spell doom for the cosmos.

I'd love to see a version of the MCU where everything is the same, except all of the costumes are adapted the same way Classic Loki's was, but everyone takes themselves totally seriously.

@dragon316 - Hey man let's take it down several hundred notches. I'm saying Richard E. Grant looks hilarious and is doing great in the role, and it would be really fun to see more characters in a cinematic universe doing the same thing. I don't know why you're obsessed with wanting comic book adaptations to not look anything like the comics they're based on, but let's chill a little bit, okay?
