We've known it was coming since watching Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, but tonight's episode of Loki finally introduces Kang Variant, Victor Timely.
It's 1868 and we head to Chicago alongside Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes (who goes black and white in order to blend in). The TVA mascot tells the former Judge about He Who Remains' plan and instructs Ravonna to place a package on a nearby window.
You see, the recently deceased Kang Variant instructed Miss Minutes to do this when he knew the end was near and, inside the house, we see a young boy who is clearly Victor. Years later, we're in 1893 and learn it was the Time Variance Authority Official Handbook Ravonna placed there.
With that, Victor has managed to create all manner of crazy inventions, including a device which bears a striking resemblance to the Time Loom currently under threat back in the TVA.
With those branched timelines destroyed by Agent Dox already growing back, the clock is once again ticking and we finally catch up to the aforementioned post-credits scene when Loki and Mobius track Victor down.
While he is a genius, he's also a con artist and is in hot water after ripping off local businessmen to fund his inventions. Victor hopes to provide light to the entire world but goes on the run and even finds himself dealing with a returning Sylvie. She wants to kill the Variant, but Loki needs him in order to access the Time Loom and save everything.
Sylvie relents but, after forming an instant connection with Ravonna, Victor escapes alongside her and Miss Minutes on a boat. At the A.I.'s insistence, he dumps Ravonna over the side as the two set off to his laboratory.
There, things get weird as we come to understand why Miss Minutes previously appeared to be jealous of the Judge and Victor's growing bond. She explains that she started life as an A.I. Kang created before the Multiversal War. After giving her sentience, the time-traveller played chess with her and shared his thoughts and feelings, resulting in Miss Minutes falling in love with her master.
Now, she wants a real body so they can be together, but he shuts her off and later agrees to help Loki and Mobius. Eventually reunited with Ravonna (who is sent to the Citadel at the End of Time by Sylvie), Miss Minutes promises to finally reveal the truth about He Who Remains but warns that it's going to make her really angry.
Did He Who Remains orchestrate Victor Timely's "creation" because he knew he could fix the Time Loom or is that who the final Kang Variant ultimately becomes? Hopefully, we'll get answers in next week's fourth chapter...
