After serving as Head Writer on Loki season 1, Michael Waldron went on to pen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, he's believed to be in the midst of writing a Star Wars movie for Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, so it's no great surprise that he won't be back as "showrunner" for the God of Mischief's upcoming second season on Disney+.
We've heard that Eric Martin, the writer behind "The Nexus Event" and "For All Time. Always" (widely considered Loki's best episodes), would take over as Head Writer, and that's now confirmed.
Talking to Digital Spy, Waldron said: "Well, I mean, look, everything leads into everything, right? We've hired a couple of great directors. [Justin] Benson and [Aaron] Moorhead are brilliant. And Eric Martin has taken over as head writer for season 2. So the creative team is fantastic. As Tom [Hiddleston, who plays Loki] once said, there's plenty more mischief to come."
Of course, many fans remain anxious to find out how the events of Loki will be referenced in the Doctor Strange sequel, and that's something Feige addressed during a red carpet interview.
"There’s always a method to the madness. Even in the Multiverse," he teased. "And for the Marvel fans who know that Loki and Sylvie did something at the end of that series that allowed all of this to be possible. He Who Remains is gone and that allowed a spell to go wrong in Spider-Man: No Way Home which leads to the entire Multiverse going quite mad in this."
In other words, had Sylvie's actions not led to the Sacred Timeline branching off and the Multiverse being reborn, what we saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home wouldn't have been possible. And, had the events of that threequel not happened, then neither would what we see in Strange's next adventure.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters tomorrow!
