Loki was a huge hit for Marvel Studios, breaking streaming records for Disney+ and earning universal critical acclaim. Yesterday, it was confirmed that a second season is on the way, while rumour has it that Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as the God of Mischief in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The actor first signed up to play the character in 2009, but during a recent Tumblr Q&A, Hiddleston made it clear he has no intentions of walking away from the role of Loki.
Asked specifically if he'd continue playing the villain turned anti-hero for the rest of his life, the actor responded: "Would I? Yeah, absolutely. I'm so lucky that I've got to play Loki for this long, and you know, I feel like he's such an interesting character who's been around in human consciousness for so long."
"And he's got so many different aspects, so many different complex characteristics, that it feels like every time I play him I find out something new or we get to evolve him or take him down an avenue that we haven't gone down before," Hiddleston continued. "Yeah, he's been around for a while. I think he's going to be around for a lot longer. Meanwhile, I'll just hold on for as long as people want me to hold on for."
In the same Q&A, Hiddleston also reflected on the journey he's taken Loki on since Thor was released in 2011. "The idea that Loki is burdened with a glorious purpose is questioned and interrogated in our show. And I think it's revealed to have no meaning and no foundation and that is very destabilizing for Loki. I think he does see himself differently. I think evolution is his only opportunity. It's his only way out. And so yes, I do think he has to evolve now."
Now, the MCU has a very different Loki, and following his journey from this point on promises to be a blast. Where his story goes next remains to be seen, but he could be pivotal in Kang's eventual defeat.
All six episodes of Loki are now streaming on Disney+.
