In the comic books, Marlene Alraune has always been Marc Spector's main love interest. Marvel Studios chose to shake things up with Moon Knight, creating an original character, Layla Al-Faouly, to take her place. While her past remains the same (including Marc's role in her archaeologist father's death), Layla is a new creation and one who looks set to have a bright future in the MCU.
After today's finale, the decision to cast an Egyptian actress makes even more sense than it already did because Layla just became a superhero! Imbued with Taweret's powers as her new avatar, Marc's wife suits up and flies into action alongside Moon Knight to battle the villainous Arthur Harrow.
She doesn't get an official moniker and doesn't appear to be based on anyone from the comic books. Instead, Marvel Studios has introduced one of its first original superheroes, and that leads to a terrific moment when a young girl in Egypt asks Layla if she's an Egyptian hero (to which she replies "I am").
The way the episode ends leaves Layla's future with Marc unclear, but we're definitely excited to see more of her in action. Unfortunately, there was no season 2 confirmation at the conclusion of this finale, but the door has been left open for more stories, and we'll share more details very soon!
