Secret Invasion is shaping up to be one of Marvel Studios' most intriguing Disney+ TV shows, with the expectation among fans being that it will feature a full-scale invasion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Skrull imposters. Ultimately, it depends how close this story follows the comic of the same name.
Recent set photos showed a newspaper with Don Cheadle's Colonel Rhodes on the front page alongside the new U.S. President. and Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, has now confirmed War Machine will be part of the series. Sharing his admiration for the Secret Invasion cast, the legendary actor said: "C'mon man, you walk on the set, Emilia’s amazing...Ben Mendelsohn, he’s awesome."
"Don, Don Cheadle. I got Don, that’s my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but 'til we did this thing, I was like, 'We’ve never worked together.' We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh," Jackson continued, "but we’d never worked together and we finally [got to work together]."
It's unclear how large of a role Cheadle will have here, especially as he only showed up for the one scene in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The character has a bright future in the MCU moving forward, as we know he'll take centre stage in Armor Wars. It's also probably a given that Rhodey will also make his presence felt in the Ironheart series focusing on Riri Williams.
However, it's entirely possible Secret Invasion will reveal that Rhodey has either been a Skrull for a while or will be one moving forward if the alien shape-shifters manage to take his place!
Secret Invasion is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
