WANDAVISION: Marvel Artist Andy Park Shares His Original Design For Scarlet Witch's Headpiece

The season finale of WandaVision saw the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) don an impressive, comic-accurate costume, but Andy Park has now shared his original design for the character's headpiece...

We finally saw Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) become the Scarlet Witch and don a striking new costume in last Friday's final episode of WandaVision, but it looks like Marvel Studios toyed with the idea of a more comic-accurate look for the character back around the time she was first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Concept artist Andy Park has shared his original design for Wanda's headpiece, which ended up being rejected in favor of a more "real world" outfit.

"SPOILERS (kinda... so don’t read if you haven’t watched WandaVision yet)! This is my attempt years ago to get something on Wanda’s head that somewhat mimics her classic headdress/crown. I knew it wasn’t gonna get any traction. But I couldn’t resist! In her early appearances in the MCU the directors wanted somewhat more of a real world feel rather than a comic book costume feel... I’m so happy that’s all changed!"

Park would probably agree that the headgear Wanda sported in "The Series Finale" of WandaVision looked a little better than this! To be fair, it wouldn't have made as much sense for the hero to wear an elaborate costume before she fully embraced her powers and transformed into the Scarlet Witch.

Are there any other Avengers you'd like to see get more comic-accurate outfits in the future? Let us know in the comments section.

@KingLeonidas -
Yea, that was really well done. Having her earn her costume and name this way is a kick in the pants. SW is an interesting character in the MCU. I see her on a path towards destruction, misery and doom.

@KingLeonidas -

I agree with you; the one we got in WandaVision is way better !

Honestly that's not too bad and works well with the more leathery trenchoat-y suit she had.

@AbidNaga - kinda surprised they didn't try something like this with the costume in age of ultron. It always seemed like the driving force behind the change to her design was because of the oversexualized nature of it. But the headdress doesn't really add to that.

@Origame - Yeah this one is kind of discrete so I'm curious as to why they didn't go with it initially. The one we have now is definitely a lot more out there and fun to see, but this wouldn't have seemed out of place in say, Civil War.

I think the Halloween costume headpiece is the best but the one from the finale is awesome in a different way

If I recall correctly Olsen wasn't keen on donning the headpiece when she first started but glad to see we ended up here eventually

@OmegaDaGrodd - I think Olsen had said she was not a fan of the over sexualized appearance of Wanda's classic costume. And she was getting upset at how exposed Wanda's cleavage was in her Age of Ultron outfit. So this new costume is a culmination of her view of Wanda and the current climate of not sexualizing women. And even so her costume is still sexy. I love it.

@SonOfAGif - Interesting, considering she fought for the classic costume in the halloween episode as the show runner didn't initially want to do it. https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/wandavision-elizabeth-olsen-fought-scarlet-witch-costume/

The official one is better, this one just looks like a normal cloth headband women use to hold back their hair.

@MosquitoFarmer - I remember when they were gradually releasing that image. Good times.

Also I'll never not laugh at Hawkeye's "Did I leave the oven on?" expression.

@bkmeijer - I think it was the same artist’s concept art for Age of Ultron back in 2015. The real 2021 looks like it was inspired by this concept art to.

That widow's peak and what I'm assuming is the tied off part in the back really contradict each other.

A rare miss by Andy Park, I think, but he said this was years ago. Pre-Doctor Strange, this would be a bit odd-looking. But the MCU has wizards now, so we can have unapologetic wimples.

Dodged a bullet there! This is why taking half measures with some aspects of a super hero look is not always a good idea, in this case this headpiece doesn't look iconic nor practical.

Just realized they can really use the WandaVision concept on a Christmas special. Basically telling a 'What if' story about what would have happened if they moved to EastView instead

I say go for it and totally embrace the LeWanda and Vishawn personalities
