The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Charity Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. O’Connell will play family patriarch, the handsome and gangly Herman Munster, a great dad and devoted husband. He is married to Lily, a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Strong but sentimental, Herman works at a funeral home, and worries that Eddie’s transformation into a werewolf and burgeoning awareness of his family’s origins will crush the boy’s spirit.

That's not The Munsters by any stretch of the imagination.

Gotta say (and I know I'll get flak for this) I'm interested now to see how this turns out. Having Herman as a reanimated corpse that can pass in the streets as normal when the scars are covered rather than an 7Ft green flat headed corpse that can't go out without being chased down the streets with burning torches and pitchforks makes it a little more... acceptable maybe?

I have mixed feelings about this... It may actually succeed. Especially since there's enough younger tv watchers who've never even seen "The Munsters" and with the recent rise of shows like "Supernatural" and "The Walking Dead" as well as "Angel", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Grimm" It may just work. Although, many of us who love the original sitcom may struggle as we try to adjust to the new dramatic "realistic" approach.

imo I dont think it's that bad looking. It's a good modern take. It looks like it will be somewhat serious, maybe with a few jokes here and there, and if they plan to take a more serious route it's good that they all look like normal people, because if they all looked like dead-up monsters, they would have a riot on their hands.

The only good thing in this entire show will be Eddie Izzard as Grandpa.

The rest of them just look like people, with maybe a mark on them.

He's supposed to be a Frankenstein monster, not a dude who recovered from having his throat slit.

I'm a MASSIVE fan of the original, but i'm willing to give it a shot. i heard the pitch was a cross between modern family and true blood, which is a neat approach. you could never replicate the original and do it justice. Plus Bryan Fuller's visuals look amazing.

I had (have?) very high hopes for this. IMO Fuller's Pushing Daisies was a brilliant 'fantasy/modern fairy tale' of a show. Those sensibilities brought to a re-imagining of The Munsters I think could be something very special as well. I guess we'll see.

I don't think jerry o Connell cares about his acting choices, every once in awhile you'll see him in something terrible, but he still gets paid and he's still living the dream. He's happy and he's not devoting his life to work. He's got the right idea:)

@ spidermoe7, I imagine you were born in the mid 90's.

The Munsters was a black and white television show back in the early 60's. I used to watch this all the time as a kid on Nick at Nite.

I loved the Monsters as a kid, But I'm not gonna dis this cos to be honest I think it looks actually not to bad. They have done something new with an old idea so I'm checking this out, I may not like it but I might. I will save judgement until I see this but so far so good :)

Hey, it might suck dirty, donkey balls but if you don't watch it, you won't know and can't say so (honestly, at least). Weather or not you like what you see, such as sets, character looks and costumes, is fair enough. I certainly have my opinions about stuff like that all the time on here (yeah, I'd like to see Thor wearing the helmet more often) but none of that means squat as to if it actually works or not. We just have to wait and judge it for its own worth.

I mean, is it what I grew up with? Hells no! But does that make it bad? Not at all. We just have to wait and judge it for tone worth.

And for a bunch of people who claim to be, comic book fans, it sure sounds like there are a lot of hypocrites on this site. Comic books get updated, changed, reimagined and done with new creative teams all the time and no one has a problem with that but then they jump all over something like this, without seeing it... Whatever.
