Season 3 of
Stranger Things is shaping up to be the biggest yet for the popular Netflix series. But following a sophomore season that received mixed reception, many fans are hoping this season can capture the same magic as the first. According to at least three of the series' stars — Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) and Noah Schnapp (Will) — Season 3 is the best yet.
"It does a good job of mixing the playfulness of Season 1 and the darkness of Season 2," said Schnapp when speaking to ET on the red carpet of the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.
Everything's intensified," added co-star Gaten Matarazzo.
"It's just a bigger, cooler... It's awesome."
Admitting they are "a bit biased," the trio agreed that it's a fantastic season regardless of their starring in the show. The conversation shifted somewhat when ET host Lauren Zima brought up
Game of Thrones and how the cast of HBO's show didn't refer to Season 8 as the best.
"They have a lot to go up against," said Schnapp, acknowledging the difference in the number of seasons for both shows. "
And also, this may not be our last season," Wolfhard added.
"We don't know."
With plot details for Season 3 being kept under wraps, no one knows if this will be the final season of
Stranger Things — not even the cast. So they were asked when they would like to see the series end, and all of them agreed it needs at least another season or two.
"Probably like, five [seasons]." Schapp answered. Matarazzo had a different response:
"I think we should stop whenever the story feels like it needs to be completed. If there's no more story, there's no more story.
I think we definitely need one more to like tie it all up," Wolfhard chimed in, with the other two agreeing.
"Either one or two more. At least one more to tie it up."
Given Wolfhard's response, it seems we'll still be left with some questions following the end of Season 3. And while the cast has had discussions about the series' length with Matt and Ross Duffer, they admitted the show's creators don't tell them anything.
Stranger Things Season 3 will premiere on Netflix on July 4.
