OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Ewan McGregor Isn't Closing The Door On Returning As The Jedi Master (Again)

After spending years fielding questions about potentially reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, actor Ewan McGregor has once again sent the internet into a frenzy by confirming he'd happily return...again.

There's a 20-year gap between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and Star Wars fans have spent decades hoping that period would be explored. The likes of Star Wars Rebels and Rogue One have started to do so, of course, but it's Obi-Wan Kenobi we've really been waiting for.

Ewan McGregor has spent years fielding questions about possibly reprising the role of Obi-Wan. Even though it looked like he would get a movie at one point, creative issues led to that project becoming a Disney+ series which will be helmed by The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow.

Talking to Total Film (via SFFGazette.com), McGregor said it "was nice to come back and to bridge that gap between me and Alec Guinness['s version]. I got as much, or more, out of playing him this time than I did in the first three movies put together. That’s to do with the writing, and the people we were making the series with, and the technology, and how different everything is."

As for whether the door is open for the actor to play the Jedi Master again or if this is truly the end for him in this Galaxy Far, Far Away, McGregor shared a response that's bound to make fans happy...and leave him fielding those same questions all over again. "[If] we were to get an opportunity to do it again," he said. "I’d be totally up for that."

"I’m very happy to be able to make people happy," McGregor later added. "People wanted this spinoff, whether it was going to be a movie or a TV show, and I’m so happy to have been able to do it. I understand, maybe more, people’s love for Star Wars. It’s an important part of my life, and whether I like it or not, that’s the case. But I do like it. So it’s great."

There are definitely other periods in Obi-Wan Kenobi's life that could be explored, particularly during this 20-year time-frame. The original plan for this series was reportedly to pit the Clone Wars hero against Darth Maul, and that's a rematch we'd kill to see play out in a future live-action project. We're sure they could even find a way to incorporate that Star Wars Rebels scene into a future show.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ with its first two episodes on May 27.

I would be open to more seasons. Although I wouldn't mind him showing up in stuff like the Fallen Order sequel either

Honestly, I kinda want Obi Wan to have a brief adventure with Cal Kestis. I know people think he should stick to the games, but no character in Star Wars is limited to just the medium they debuted in.

Cameron Monaghan is just too phenomenal a talent not to be used in a Disney+ show, and having Obi-Wan teach him a few things on a quick adventure before they part ways and Cal tries to start his Academy would be so fun to see play out, even if they but heads and Obi-Wan warns him against it.

I loved rebels but if they do a second season they should just retcon that single episode so whatever Kenobi and Maul fight over will be longer and more epic this time.
