OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Ewan McGregor Shares Which Scene In The STAR WARS Series Moved Him To Tears

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has reflected on the experience of watching the Disney+ series, revealing the unexpected scene that moved him to tears when he finally got to see it. Read on for details!

While Obi-Wan Kenobi came under fire from some fans for what they felt was an overreliance on VFX backgrounds created by The Volume, it's hard to deny that the series was an absolute delight for Star Wars fans.

Set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, this previously untold story saw "Ben" forced to come out of hiding on Tatooine in order to protect a young Princess Leia. Along the way, he learned Anakin Skywalker was not only alive, but that he was now known as the fearsome Sith Lord, Darth Vader.

They clashed on two occasions, including in an emotional finale that saw Obi-Wan accept that the man he knew as a friend had fully fallen to the Dark Side and was no more.

However, that wasn't the scene which brought star Ewan McGregor to tears when he sat down to watch the Disney+ series.

During a recent interview with Disney Studios Awards (via SFFGazette.com), the actor said it was his final scene with Vivien Lyra Blair - which sees Obi-Wan bid farewell to the young girl - that brought tears to his eyes.

"When I saw Episode 6 [of Obi-Wan Kenobi] for the first time...I got to see them down where we show in Manhattan Beach, and I went down there, and I watched Episodes 1 to 3," McGregor recalls. "They literally shut me in a room on my own, and I was so impressed."

"But when...I was sitting there, and I watched Episode 6...when I tell [Vivien Lyra Blair’s Leia], 'May the Force Be With You,' at the end, I burst into tears. I was sitting there [and] there’s something so moving about it."

It was a standout scene and one that really cemented Obi-Wan's relationship with Anakin's daughter (also helping explain why she turned to him for help in A New Hope).

There's been no mention from Lucasfilm about plans for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, but fans remain optimistic, and McGregor has said on a number of occasions that there are more stories he would like to tell with the iconic Jedi Master.

Obi wan was so bad. I can't believe this is what star wars has become. Complete fail😳

@AmazingFILMporg - I can. I liked the show a lot and gave me more than I wanted. Even if the whole Reva plot is something I didn't care for.

I liked that scene and what it represents a lot too. Didn't expect it, but the show did a great job building up the relation we already knew they had.

Still, Vader vs. Kenobi is what I came for though. And that finale didn't dissappoint me.

should've been a movie

@Dredd97 - Would it have been less crap being a movie?

@marvel72 - would've been streamlined at least. there's a. edit out there that cuts it down to 2 hours or so.

@Dredd97 - I agree they could have cut out a lot of crap, like Leia running away from adults and that stupid disguise scene, where Kenobi wore a long coat to hide Leia.

@marvel72 - It was originally supposed to be a movie. The script the show is based on was for a movie. But after Solo bombed and after the poor reaction to the ST and the positive one to The Mandalorian, they decided to stretch it out into a series instead.

Theres no telling if the movie wouldve been good or not, but I cant imagine it wouldve been worse than the show.

It put me to tears too. Mostly because it was so pathetic in its attempt to pretend it can still work in Canon. "OH it does work with episode 4. She's just pretending in episode 4 not to know obi wan because he told her not to".

Except that makes zero sense. At that point in episode 4, Leia was already known as a rebel spy and traitor. She's even known for the crime of STEALING THE PLANS FOR THEIR MOST POWERFUL WEAPON. And it's not protecting obi wan either since anyone who finds the message will know he's on tatooine, since that's where the message was sent to.

It doesn't even make sense in the context of the show itself. Why is obi wan pretending hiding the relationship will do anything when the empire already knows this relationship and kidnapped her anyway for obi wan without them even having met in the first place?

@Origame - Leia is not protecting Obi-wan, she is protecting the secret that Obi-wan is hiding, her brother Luke Skywalker.

I hope season 2 will be about Luke next time. I also want more Qui-Gon and him teaching Kenobi the path to immortality.

I'm also hoping for a flash forward with Ben confronting Maul, kinda like a mid credit scene after the story is over.

@Timerider84 - ...she doesn't know anything about that. She only knows obi wan is hiding there.

Seriously, where are you getting she knows anything about luke?
Origame

@Timerider84 - also, no its not true at all. In the finale when talking to Leia he specifically says "we must be careful, no one must know, or it could endanger us both". This is not about Luke. Its about obi wan and Leia.

There were certainly moments that I enjoyed mostly in the quieter moments with Obi-Wan on his own on Tatooine, certain character interactions between Obi-Wen and Leia or him and Vader and of course the prequel flashbacks. Alas beyond those elements I couldn't help but feel disappointed by a good few things, especially with the writing, action and treatment of the Inquisitors who were a far cry from their better appearances in Rebels and Fallen Order.

I agree, I'm so glad they brought everyone back for this story. I understand the budget was small, but it was still good, not great, but good.

It needed better special effects especially the lightsabers, and the story needed a few changes made.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - The more I watch that scene, the more I can’t believe that made it to the final edit.

Everything from the acting, editing (characters are behind her then she is entering from side of screen), ridiculousness of the problems in the way of the characters.

The funny thing is someone edited it so it went from the line “For you” to the bag over the head and it works soooo much better as the kidnappers are a mystery, they seem capable rather than morons, and gets the point of the scene shown ina timely manner

Fogs - 2/4/2023, 5:42 PM
@CAPTAINPINKEYE - that was BAD. But I'll go ahead and say if this was the worse thing in this series I'd give it a pass as bad editing that made to the final version. But no, there was more shitty stuff. Waaay more.

My favourite bits were the Blazing Saddles gate moment and hiding Leia under his coat - prime examples of the bad writing
