Darth Maul Actor Ray Park Seemingly Teases A Role In THE MANDALORIAN Season 2

Ray Park remains closely tied to Darth Maul after first playing the character in 1999's The Phantom Menace, but he now appears to be teasing an appearance in The Mandalorian! Read on for details...

Ray Park played Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Solo: A Star Wars Story, while he's also leant his movements to The Clone Wars animated series. He's never voiced the character, though, as that honour instead went to Peter Serafinowicz and, most notably, Sam Witwer.

However, Park has sent speculation into overdrive this week by sharing a cryptic Instagram post.

As you can see below, the actor shared the Sith logo alongside the now iconic catchphrase from The Mandalorian, "This is the way." Now, in terms of canon, Maul was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi shortly before the events of A New Hope, so it's impossible to imagine him appearing in the Disney+ series as that character (unless it's in a flashback or hologram unearthed from the past).

There are plenty of other ways he could appear, of course, though we can't help but wonder whether a flashback might explain the legacy of the Darksaber, revealing how it went from being in Maul's possession to ultimately falling into the evil Moff Gideon's hands.

We'll have to wait and see, and while this might just be Park having fun with fans, it's certainly hard not to get excited about seeing more of Maul in a live-action setting moving forward...

Love Ray Park as Maul.

I mean, just look at the devotion from him for Clone Wars:

Really hope he is in The Mandalorian. After Solo, I really hope for more live-action Maul.

@kylo0607 - I think Mandalorin was supposed to be a movie. It was reported that the cancelled Mangold film wasnt Bobba Fett but a Mandalorian film. The prequels were supposed to deal with the shady underground side of the SWU. Solo, Mando, & Obi Wan movies were supposed to be about those concepts. Kinda sad to c it all go on disney+

I'm in the minority of really enjoying solo.

@kylo0607 - well it wouldn’t really make snes for him to appear as Maul since he’s long dead by the time Mandalorian starts unless it’s a flashback to Mando as a child or something

@Ha1frican - Flashbacks.

@kylo0607 - I understand that which is why I mentioned it but I think it’s far more likely he’s just another character

@Ha1frican - My thoughts exactly! We see Obi Wan take him out right before the events of A New Hope...

Flash Back? or Some sort of Force Ghost?

OR its just Ray Park playing another character! Just be a nice easter egg it's him.

Damn!
If we could get him on the Obi Wan series as well that would hype me up for real!

@TheJustinHammer
I know and i hated how he went out!
That was Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar all over again!
I was kinda hoping we could fix that with the live action.

@Doomsday8888 - I thought his death in Rebels was perfect. Would have loved to see it in live action, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

@TheJustinHammer - People don't want to admit that Maul in Rebels may be retconned, either not seeing Obi-Wan since the Clone Wars or his death itself. Clone Wars has already gone in this direction with Rex and the other two clones' de-chipping not happening the way he described it in Rebels.

It's one of those things fan care a lot about, "He can't be in Mandalorian / Obi-Wan! He died in Rebels!" but I doubt anyone at Lucasfilm, yes even Dave Filoni, is gonna go, "Damn, we can't actually feature Ewan McGregor vs Ray Park again; we did that in animated form half a decade ago!" If they want Maul in one of these shows, his death in Rebels isn't going to change that. Canon is super important to fans, but a studio isn't going to throw away a good idea based on it.

I'm definitely expecting more flashbacks involving Death Watch and possibly even Nite Owls, so wouldn't be surprised if Maul is going to make an appearance too. And not that I would mind, I still wanna know what happened between Solo and Rebels

@MalseMarcel - I want to get a Crimson Dawn series with Emilia Clarke and Maul so BAD!

@SerKurtWagner - Or just a crime syndicate show that involves the Crimson Dawn, but also the Hutts and the others. It's definitely a side of the Star Wars universe I want to see

@MalseMarcel - For sure. It just seems like Clarke's star power and the spin-off of solo would be the necessary fuel to make it happen. Finger Crossed for getting Glover to guest star as Lando from time to time.

You combine his Darth Maul with his Toad, and you've got one properly ugly fella.

"we can't help but wonder whether a flashback might explain the legacy of the Darksaber, revealing how it went from being in Maul's possession to ultimately falling into the evil Moff Gideon's hands"

The last time the darksaber was seen chronologically before The Mandalorian, it wasn't in Maul's possession. He'd already lost it. So if there's going to be a flashback about how it ended up in Gideon's hands, it would make much more sense if that flashback involved Bo-Katan.
