THE MANDALORIAN Is The Most In-Demand Original Series Across New Streaming Services

A new study finds that The Mandalorian was by far the most in-demand original series on the four streaming services which have launched over the past nine months, drawing 55x more interest than its rivals.

The Hollywood Reporter has shared a report from Parrot Analytics which reveals that The Mandalorian was the most in-demand original show from any of the new streaming services. Four have launched over the past nine months, but the first live-action Star Wars TV series came out well ahead.

Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock were all compared, but demand for The Mandalorian was 55x higher than any other TV series during that same week.

It's clear the show really resonated with viewers, and excitement for season two is at an all-time high. Interestingly, Marvel's What If? also receives a mention despite it not being available on Disney+ until next year. All we can assume is that after seeing a handful of clips from it in Marvel Studios: Expanding The Universe, fans were desperate for more from that animated TV show.

All of these streaming services are nipping at the heels of Netflix, and their monopoly on that market is now more. As time goes on, people will obviously have to decide which ones they want to subscribe to on a long-term basis because accessing all of them simply won't be affordable.

Was The Mandalorian a priority for you when it arrived on Disney+ last November?

To me, the Mandalorian's popularity is proof that the Expanded Universe-esque stories were always the right direction to take the franchise post Original Trilogy.

This franchise wasted 40 years dicking around with prequels while Hamill and Fisher would have probably killed for the work, Disney comes in and tries to put the pieces together as best they can (in a hasty and slapshod way), but all people really wanted was to continue the story of the original movies and continue to explore the setting through new and engaging characters and side-plots. People wanted so desperately to love Star Wars that most will put up with a pretty badly managed franchise to get it. When someone comes along and does it "right", it's damn near universally loved.

I realize there will be people who disagree with this assessment, but I've been saying this for 20 years and it was always shot down because I didn't have any proof. This, I think, is evidence.

I don't know how many people would agree with me, but Disney should seriously consider exploring Luke's story between episodes VI & VII. If not Sebastian Stan, I'm open to the idea of looking for another actor to portray Luke. There's just way too much potential there. Casting Han & Leia would be infinitely more difficult, but a solo film about Luke's journey to restart the Jedi Order would be intriguing.

@WarAdmiral51 -
I think the whole Skywalker thing is played out and the reason that Mandalorian is so popular is it is tilling new ground. My personal opinion is that Baby will be the center of a reborn Jedi Order but it will take a long time to get there. Including former Jedi in Season 2 kind of points to that happening eventually.

Hows Marvels what if there if it's not out yet? The Madalorian thing makes sense though. Curious what numbers Falcon and Winter Soldier and Wandavision would have done if it stayed on schedule.

Marvel's What If hasn't launched yet though, right?
TBH it's easily the strongest launch title any streaming service has had and some of the other services like Peacock and HBO are still in their relative infancy.

That chart is inaccurate. It says HBO Max launched in May 2019 but it didn't launch until May 2020 and it says Peacock launched in July 2019 but it didn't until July 2020.
