As expected, this week's episode of The Mandalorian saw the return of Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Cara Dune (Gina Carano), and with that, all the footage in the trailers and TV spots released prior to today has now been seen in the series itself. That leaves four more instalments which are complete mysteries to us, an appropriate decision given what a game-changer "Chapter 12" proves to be!
As well as starring in this action-heavy episode, Weathers directs and proves in the process that he's the perfect fit for being a storyteller in this Galaxy Far, Far Away. Delivering an old-school, classic Star Wars feel, the actor and filmmaker tells a strong story, but also delivers the memorable, big screen quality visuals which were missing from, for example, "Chapter 10." This also stands a strong chance of being the most "meme-worthy" episode of The Mandalorian to date courtesy of The Child, as the adorable little critter swaps stealing eggs - a gross, but undeniably funny subplot - for some slightly more innocent, baby-like behaviour. Those action scenes are likely to be discussed for a long time to come, though, as there's plenty of exciting, edge of your seat moments to get caught up in.
As well as being superb behind the camera, Weathers is excellent in front of it too, and Karga remains one of the best characters to come out of this Disney+ series. Carano is once again very good as the ex-Rebel Shock trooper, and while she doesn't add as much to this episode as Weathers, it's clear there's still more story to be told with her. Throw in a surprise guest star (well, unless you've seen the Funko Pop) who goes from glorified extra in season one to an entertaining co-star here, and "Chapter 10" really is firing on all cylinders. Another guest star, meanwhile, hints at how some individual stories could soon start linking up.
In terms of story, this is another episode of The Mandalorian which successfully moves the series along, providing some big answers and leaving us with our fair share of questions. There's lots to speculate about here, and some big teases about the aims of certain characters which we're hoping will pay off in the coming weeks. For anyone disappointed by the show's "filler" episodes, this is no doubt exactly what you've been hoping for from the show. After Bryce Dallas Howard's phenomenal effort last week, it almost feels too soon to hail this as another of the show's best efforts, but it would be unfair to call it anything else as there's so much to love. Honestly, it's a 36-minute masterpiece.
Carl Weathers needs to return to the director's chair in a Galaxy Far, Far Away as soon as possible because this week's episode of The Mandalorian really is the show at its best.
