THE MANDALORIAN Season 4 Teased By Emily Swallow: "The Armorer Is Integral To Whatever Din Djarin Is Doing"

The Mandalorian star Emily Swallow has revealed whether she anticipates returning as The Armorer in season 4, sharing her take on the character's importance to Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and even Grogu...

The Mandalorian's Armorer has become a firm fan favourite among Star Wars fans, and when we last saw her, she was following Bo-Katan Kryze's lead on a reformed Mandalore.

That came as a shock to many fans, of course, as the prevailing theory online had been that she would betray Din Djarin by revealing she'd been in cahoots with Moff Gideon the entire time. It was a compelling idea, albeit one we're pleased didn't pan out given how much fun spending time with The Armorer has proven to be.

Actress Emily Swallow recently caught up with The Direct (via SFFGazette.com) and was asked whether she's heard anything about plans for the clan leader to return in The Mandalorian's upcoming fourth season.

"I honestly don't know. I really hope so, but I have no specifics about what direction this next season is going off into," the actress says. "I love the Armorer so much, and I love especially this last season that she and [Bo-Katan] sort of defied expectations in working together and I love that."

"I love that both of them were willing to sort of look outside these very strongly held beliefs that they've had to see what was gonna benefit the Mandalorian people as a whole, and to take a chance, to take a big risk, because for either of them, they could have lost the respect of their factions by aligning with the other."

"And I would love to see more of how this new combined Mandalorian society plays out," Swallow continues. "Of course, I always want to know, like, 'Well what else is the Armorer up to? What does she do when she's not having to now drag her forge to different planets all the time, now that she sort of has a home base?'"

After suggesting The Armorer's backstory, her connection with Grogu, and the potential introduction of an apprentice are all ideas which could be on the table, The Mandalorian star shared a strong argument for why we're likely to see her helmeted warrior again.

"I feel like it's been established now that the Armorer is always integral to whatever Din Djarin is doing," Swallows notes. "I feel like he has to check in with her from time to time, so I feel like we should see her, but I have no certain verification that we will."

We're confident The Armorer will return, though what role, if any, she'll play in Dave Filoni's wider plans for Star Wars franchise moving forward remains to be seen. As for The Mandalorian season 4, production is expected to begin next year for a possible late 2024/early 2025 launch on Disney+.

I really liked the first two seasons. Could not get into the 3rd one at all.

@lazlodaytona - The ONLY part I cared about was the Dr. Pershing episode, because it sets up some plotlines that might synch with the Thrawn plot. Thrawn comes back to the galaxy, finds the genetic research, starts building a master race of SuperTroopers and thwacks the New Republic upside the head. Everyone's clueless except Hera and Ezra, who are off fighting the guy on their own while Ahsoka and Sabine are doing whatever on the Mortis Gods planet.

Respect? How many Mandos are now dead under her leadership? And where do they keep coming from, they seem to have an endless supply of this race that was decimated in 1st season.

Side note: Emily was great in Supernatural.

@WarMonkey - thats what put me off Mando season 3, thought he was a rare breed and one of the last of kind but then we’re introduced to more of him in every color of the rainbow.

@WarMonkey - weakest writing on the show involves this character

She literally cucked Mando to the nth possible extreme for daring to take his helmet off in a moment of absolute heartbreaking sacrifice with Grogu’s darewell in the S2 finale and then, 2 minutes later, casually instructs Batan to remove the helmet proudly and go forth, proudly unmasked, as a ‘bridge between both worlds’ or some such nonsensical shit

Batan was hardly worthy after her corrupted and checkered past, but the Armorer was like: “nope, all good, take the helmet off and shine-on that Mary Sue power.”

Contrast that with Mando, who, as a bastard foundling (ie not ‘pure’) spent the whole of his existence trying earnestly to live up to each and EVERY word of The Creed, and was promptly AND ruthlessly punished for an act of sacrificial love

Shows you how bad the Disney writing can be, even on a show with such high zeitgeist value as ‘The Mandalorian’

I still don’t understand the hate for season 3.
It did a solid job at establishing the new status quo for the galaxy and showed some really good world building in standalone episodes (like the Pershing one).

Yes, he followed Bo-Katans journey but Mando really never was the central character of this story. Season 1-2 were about Grogus origin and protecting him and this was about Bo-Katan regaining her throne.

Mando is like Geralt or the Doctor, a character witnessing other characters on their journeys and helping them achieve their goals.
The hate felt really Bo-Katan centric and I don’t really understand why.

@Blergh - Has there been anything in the last 5 years or so, or even longer ago, where the story's plot revolved around the character who's name is in the title and not side characters? Maybe Loki season 2? IDK cause I didn't watch it after the 1st season was all about Sylvie and the TVA members. Not sure about other people but I'm done with shows that do this.

I think a good example for what I mean is the old Xena show where her name was in the title and everything in the plot and all the side characters all revolved around her and her journey and story. Even Gabriel, her side-kick, wasn't focused on much even though she was always there.

Back when good stories were being told writers would give an episode, maybe even a 2-parter, to the side characters and where they came from but that was basically it. Showrunners used to know that if the show is about a title character then that's what people showed up for and are interested in their story. They didn't waste their time on other side characters much or tertiary ones that didn't move the story of the title character forward.

Had not thought about that all, but that is pretty much it. He has some agency, but he kind of is the stand-in in the story of the audience as well imo. He's even faceless most of the time.

Bo-Katan only works as a traitor, a villain or an antagonist. Season 3 writing propped her up so hard to a point other characters had to be written out of character to make sense of her story.

I'm out. I really don't give a flying flip whether Mando takes his helmet off and I've never bought Grogu as anything more than a muppet. It's nice Disney is making a lot from Grogu merch but it doesn't make it a convincing character.

Filoni should give up on the Mando stuff and focus on getting Ahsoka up to standards with better writing and dialogue. He shouldn't write everything himself. He needs to hire a staff of strong writers. He can be the idea guy.
