THE MANDALORIAN Spoilers: "The Convert" Sees Bo-Katan Kryze Make Two Fateful Decisions

Yesterday's episode of The Mandalorian may have put the spotlight on Doctor Pershing, but we also caught up with Bo-Katan Kryze, and the Night Owl made two fateful decisions which could change everything!

Chapter 19, "The Convert," of The Mandalorian picks up right where last week's episode left us in the mines of Mandalore. Din Djarin wakes up redeemed and explains that he fell into the depths of the Living Waters, meaning he wasn't dragged down by the ancient Mythosaur Bo-Katan Kryze caught a glimpse of.

She asks if he saw anything down there and, when he says no, makes no mention of the fact she spotted one of the ancient beasts (Bo-Katan does, however, note that the Night of a Thousand Tears likely caused seismic activity that made the waters even deeper).

Leaving the planet, the trio finds themselves being pursued by TIE Interceptors, prompting Bo-Katan to point out that it's unlikely a warlord such as Moff Gideon would have access to such a large force. Could this be a hint that Grand Admiral Thrawn, Star Wars Rebels and Ahsoka's big bad, is somewhere in the shadows with a massive army of his own?

Either way, TIE Bombers destroy Bo-Katan's home and she and Din are forced to flee from the huge number of Imperial fighters.

We later find them arriving at The Armorer's covert, much to the apparent disgust of Paz Vizsla. Din is able to prove that he found redemption in the Living Waters and is a Mandalorian once more. However, as Bo-Katan dived in to save him and has not removed her helmet since, she too is offered redemption and welcomed into their group.

This Is The Way!

This could mean we don't see Bo-Katan unmask again, but she seems happy enough to join them...for now, at least. However, while everyone - minus Viszla - celebrates her and Din's return, she looks uneasily at the Mythosaur skull on the wall. Will she reveal her secret to the group?

For now, it appears we'll have to wait and see.

I’m sure they at least wrote and potentially filmed this before Andor, but man, the gritty character/world-building just pales in comparison here. I appreciate the experimenting with the formula for sure, shooting for something interesting, just the gulf in nuance and general character work with Gilroy and Favreau is stark. Dog fight at the beginning ripped insanely hard tho

@Kneeonbrown - He wrote it, just as Gilroy writes but doesn't direct Andor

I'm guessing they couldn't secure Sackoff for more than a couple episodes on screen as Bo Katan as it looks like she's keeping her helmet on too. Lol.

Good episode though that dog fight intro went hard! The other stuff seemed akin to Andor which was pretty cool. The volume stage is becoming pretty obvious now though and in 2023 you'd expertly things to look better than they did with RoTS in 2005.

I saw all over Twitter the typical “this is going to end Star Wars” talk.
The Disney/Star Wars haters were piling on and I felt it was unjustified.

The show was interesting. I liked to die story of the two other characters. I liked exploring more of Coruscant and seeing how the New Republic was working.
That leaned toward more of what I would have preferred the sequel trilogy to be. The New Republic had basically become the Empire and those with power are easily corrupted.
You see signs of that here. It reminds me of how the United States handled Japan at the end of WWII in some ways.

Most was predictable especially the Coruscant storyline, but it held me engaged.

Overall it was a good episode. I’m curious to see where it leads.
And the Bo Katan twist I did not anticipate.

I still wish they were doing all of this without Baby Yoda. It would have been much better.

Not a bad episode... honestly the tie fighter battle had me a giddy inside and was some of my favorite star wars action to date; in anything i've seen.

The Amnesty stuff was Ok at best... im curious where that plot line ties into the shitty star wars sequels, or if it's for this show only.

So far, off to a good start for my favorite SW show.

@MotherGooseUPus - I was losing it over that opening Tie Fighter chase. What a fantastic way to choreograph a dog fight in the skies. Bo-Katan's quick U-Turn got an audible cheer from me and my wife, and Din's recognition of danger on the radar really heightened the tension.

Sorry fellas, but I have to ask. What’s the significance of seeing the Mythosaur? Just a sign to Katan that she’ll lead mandalore?

I believe that WE the audience could see the twist coming, but I can see why Pershing fell for the ruse. Elia Kane was a familiar face in an overwhelming Coruscant. With hardly anyone to make him feel welcome (the society replaced names and identities with number IDs, for Force's sake), Pershing was looking for a friend. Kane seemed suspect to us, but for Pershing who was experiencing this monkey's paw of Freedom, it would be easy to overlook the danger--especially since it seemed like she was taking on just as much risk to help a friend. The story clearly takes place over the course of time, likely weeks or months given the "Wellness Check-in," so it's easy to imagine that Kane became Pershing's closest friend and confidant on the planet. Some people surpress suspicions if they are coming from a friend.

I enjoyed the episode for the most part, though it did feel a bit like a spin-off. If I'm going to criticize Book of Boba Fett for it's Mando Detour, I feel like I need to be critical here as well (even though I liked this overall). At least this episode book-ended the tale with the main plot. I'll be more satisfied if/when Elia Kane returns as a Mandalorian antagonist.
