THE MANDALORIAN Star Giancarlo Esposito Reveals Why Moff Gideon's Armor Is So Similar To Darth Vader's

It's hard to ignore the fact that Moff Gideon is wearing armour similar to Darth Vader's in The Mandalorian, and actor Giancarlo Esposito has now shed some light on the reason for those similarties...

While all eyes are on this Friday's episode of The Mandalorian (especially with those big rumours floating around), fans are still talking about the surprise conclusion to last week's "Chapter 12." That episode saw Moff Gideon working on what appears to be a new version of the Dark Troopers from the Expanded Universe, and if they're going to be sent after Din Djarin, the bounty hunter is in real trouble.

While those mysterious Troopers bear a resemblance to Darth Vader, so does Gideon's armour.

Asked during a recent interview with IGN whether there's a reason for that, actor Giancarlo Esposito shed some light on why Gideon dresses so differently to other Moffs we've seen in the past.

"I think it's a throwback to this guy," Esposito explained. "It really relates in a way to me, I like to think or imagine in my brain, that he has the kind of power that Darth Vader had. And so, seeing him in his armor and his cape and armed up tells me he's a warrior. That tells me he is a soldier and has the skills to back that up and hopefully, you'll see it soon in our [upcoming] episodes."

The actor also teased Gideon's motivations, saying: "[That's] what I love about Moff. He's a thinker and he's come so close to getting this child. What does he want them for? And that's the question. What does he really want? Does he want to empower other people or take all the power for himself? Or does he want to rebuild the galaxy or create the world's most formidable army?"

There's clearly a lot more to Moff Gideon than meets the eye, and it's going to be fun to explore that in the weeks to come. However, with Esposito teasing a larger role for his villain in season three, there's every chance the Disney+ series is taking a slow burn approach to revealing what's he up to!

I can imagine Moff Gideon with Vader. Maybe as an Inquisitor and he knows how to use a Lightsaber. Thus, Gideon is not useless using the Darksaber.

Man, I must have got totally the wrong end of the stick. I took the ending to mean he was working for Palpatine conducting experiments to create him a new clone body (the things in the tank) and needs the living Child’s blood to make it force sensitive. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Theoretically everyone is a little force sensitive, just not enough to do much with it unless they get a booster of M's.

I'm absolutely in for Gideon being force sensitive and at least being capable of throwing Mando around.
He could have been an Inquisitior in training when the Empire fell.

Also I absolutely adore how they are already finishing up season 3 and are going into 4. Quick back to back productions are awesome
