Disney is the king of marketing and merchandising, often tying toys and apparel to their big movies and television shows.
The Mandalorian will be no different. Disney confirmed to CNBC that merchandise featuring one of the show's most popular characters, Baby Yoda, will be coming in time for the holidays.
Disney's live-action
Star Wars series has been a massive hit since debuting on Disney+ earlier this month, and one of the biggest surpises — which was somehow kept a secret up until the big reveal — was "the Child." More popularly referred to as "Baby Yoda," the adorable new character will be featured on all sorts of merchandise, including apparel and accessories, sold through most major retailers.
Some of the new merchandise is already available, including two T-shirts, on Amazon.
Disney typically has a knack for spoiling characters ahead of their movies and shows thanks, in large part, to the company's merchandising and toy catalogs that typically arrive ahead of the holiday season. Even
The Mandalorian series creator was surprised that Baby Yoda wasn't spoiled ahead of the reveal.
“I have to thank Disney and Lucasfilm, because the way the cat usually gets out of the bag with that stuff is merchandising and toy catalogs and things like that. So they really back us up," Favreau told Entertainment Tonight.
“That requires a lot of restraint from the people who are footing the bill, saying they’re gonna hold back on certain things so that the public doesn’t know ahead of time. Part of that was holding back on some of the merchandise and holding back on some of the characters.”
Since
Star Wars creator George Lucas or any other movies, shows, or books never actually revealed the species or home planet of Yoda, most
Star Wars fans simply refer to this new character in the show as "Baby Yoda" because of his resemblance to the iconic Jedi. Through three episodes
The Mandalorian, we still don't really no much about Baby Yoda except that he is Force sensitive.
Apparel and accessories featuring the fan-favorite, adorable creature will be sold through Amazon, Zazzle, Target, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Hot Topic and Box Lunch, as well as the Disney Store, ShopDisney and at the Disney Parks.
