ALADDIN Star Mena Massoud Teases Playing Ezra Bridger After Rumors He'll Star In Disney+'s AHSOKA

Is Aladdin star Mena Massoud heading to a Galaxy Far, Far Away? Rumour has it he'll play Star Wars Rebels's Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka, and the actor has now responded with a cryptic social media post...

While it was initially reported that Star Wars Rebels would be getting an animated sequel series, it's now thought that Ezra Bridger's story will continue in the live-action Ahsoka instead.

That does make sense, and likely means we'll see Temuera Morrison play Captain Rex as well as Boba Fett over in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. There's no word on who will play Sabine Wren, but rumour has it Lucasfilm is eyeing Aladdin star Mena Massoud for Ezra.

Now, the actor has responded to the recent report with a cryptic (shirtless) Instagram post.

"Hey, just so you know, when I escape I won't hurt any of you," he says in the post below - a quote pulled directly from the season two episode of Star Wars Rebels, "Stealth Strike." The young Jedi said that to a group of Stormtroopers after he was captured by the Empire.

Is this confirmation that Massoud will play Ezra? Not exactly, but it's certainly an interesting tease, and one which acknowledges those rumours about Ahsoka head on. The actor would be a fitting choice to play an older Ezra, and it's not hard to imagine him doing a great job as Kanan Jarrus's old apprentice.

Check out Massoud's Instagram's post below:

Will be nice to see more Rebels characters in live action, but sucks they scrapped the potential follow up animated series

I actually like this casting.. surely with all the rumours and him directly quoting Ezra means he’s actually been cast right? Unless this is him trying to get the role lol. Even though the voice actor Taylor Gray could easily pull off the look in live action, I always felt like Ezra’s voice acting was a weak point of the show. Now for Thrawn I don’t see any other choice but to cast Lars Mikkelsen he is a good actor, and was a great Thrawn in Rebels, just paint him blue. Steve Blum could easily return as Zeb too with his voice, just make him CGI or a practical costume would cover the face anyway. The rest of the voice cast I’m not sure about. But I do like them casting the voice actors as the live action version if they can pull it off though, like Bo Katan, I understood Ashley Eckstein not getting the Ahsoka role, she just doesn’t suit Ahsoka lookwise, but Rosario Dawson was great as Ahsoka fortunately. Really hope the next time we see Luke it’s Sebastian Stan because although that scene was awesome, the face looked fake as f**k lol I’d rather have an actual persons real face there, could do a lot more with that.

@JohnCastillo - yeah Taylor Grey would fit the role roo, but I think they shy away from that because they don't want voice actors for the role.

Same goes for Eckstein I think. Although I don't get why they didn't take a double and had Eckstein do they voice. They did it with Maul, and more recently with Luke too (wish they got Stan for that role though, simce they kinda put themselves in a corner with the current approach)

@bkmeijer - I think i gotta disagree with the whole getting an actor and dubbing him/her, for me personally it just doesn’t work in the long run. Darth Maul worked because he was a hologram, Ray Parker was a real guy with makeup on not CGI and it was a short scene/cameo but for a whole film where Maul is a main character I just don’t think it would work, I’d just prefer they just use Sam Witwer with Maul makeup at that point. I get that people love having originals back in the roles but sometimes it’s just not logical, I love Hamill a lot but man he should not be brought back as young Luke.. But with the Taylor Gray one, it’s baffling since he has a good look for Ezra but I do think it has something to do with his acting.. I might be alone in thinking that but for me his voice acting just wasn’t that good in Rebels.

@JohnCastillo - yeah, for more than a glorified cameo I admit it doesn't work.

I'm not against casting a new actor in the same role at different age though. Happens all the time in the Star Wars franchise.

As for Maul, I agree they should just get Witwer for Maul (and maybe CGI him like Red Skull in IW) and Stan as Luke

@bkmeijer - Talking of Ray Park (not Parker my bad), he got into some trouble recently (not hard these days I know) but there were reports of Disney not wanting him back for some sexual stuff he posted or got hacked or whatever.. but although I like Ray Park I reckon it’s time for Witwer to get the paint on, he’d look good I reckon. Oh damn was Red Skull CGI’d? Yes please Stan as Luke has to be done.

@JohnCastillo - I assume he has atleast one more appearance, since we definitely haven't seen the last of Grogu. if Luke is getting more frequent appearances in the Mandoverse, I don't know if the CGI road is gonna hold up.

I think Red Skull was CGI (or maybe a mix of CGI and make-up). Either way, I think Witwer would be up for whatever route they choose.

@bkmeijer - Witwer goes wild in his interpretation of Maul, like crazy as hell.. And I highly doubt Ray Park could keep up in a bigger role for Maul. Yeah I agree Witwer would be more than ready for that step up. Although some people want him to be a live action Starkiller too so who knows.

@JohnCastillo - if there is another Star Wars character Witwer already portrayed that I wanna see in live-action, it's The Son

@bkmeijer - Damn yeah, that could be a really deep powerful film if they made a movie about The Ones. Depending on who’s making it ofcourse.. bring in Denis Villeneuve.

@JohnCastillo - didn't think of that yet, could be cool too. I was thinking that he could return in the sequel era.

Either way, I want them to include The Mother/Abeloth too in the lore.

Man if this guy gets cast for Ezra my interest for the sw shows will go all the way down tbh.

I mean no offence but I just think that he is such a bland actor lol.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Dev Patel would actually be a great choice.. but I think you’re being really harsh on Mena Massoud. I thought he was charming and did a solid job as Aladdin, that experience will also help him in bigger productions in the future too. I’ll be on his corner if he gets cast, opinions ofcourse but I just don’t think he’s a bad enough actor to think he’d be awful as Ezra. We’ll see. Hope he proves you wrong.

Superspecialawesomeguy - 3/17/2021, 3:01 PM
@JohnCastillo - You make some good points tbh, while I don't think he was as charming or had done a solid job as you say, I still think he has room to grow as an actor (not a lot of room mind you, but that's just me). Trust me if does a good job I'll be the first to apologise lol.

I guess he's doing some research on the character by watching Star Wars Rebels right now. His quote is very particular to one episode of the series.

@Batman5 - thats a good choice. She had a blink and you miss it role in one the sequels, so it wouldn't affect anything much

Haven't seen Aladdin and neither of his other work, but I think he could do well in the role. Read he's fine in Aladdin, and Ezra already has some Aladdin characteristics anyway.
