OBI-WAN KENOBI: Ewan McGregor Is Rocking A Familiar Beard As Speculation Mounts About A Qui-Gon Jinn Cameo

There's a huge amount of excitement for Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi event series, and with Hayden Christensen confirmed to return as Darth Vader and rumours of flashbacks to the Clone Wars, there are bound to be some big surprises. Will an appearance from Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn be among them?

At one time, Qui-Gon returning to teach Obi-Wan how to become a Force Ghost was canon, but will that play out on the small screen as well?

In an excerpt from the new Skywalker: A Family At War book, it's revealed that it took the fallen Jedi Master a decade to learn how to reappear as a Force Ghost.

"Before he and Yoda had parted ways, the old Jedi revealed that Obi-Wan's beloved master Qui-Gon Jinn had returned from the netherworld of the Force, manifesting his conscious mind even after death," it reads. "It took 10 years, but eventually, Obi-Wan was able to commune with his dearest friend, resurrected within the cosmic Force."

With this series set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, something tells us that this breakthrough could lead to whatever mission Kenobi ends up finding himself embarking on.

"The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat," reads the Obi-Wan Kenobi synopsis, "the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader."

The cast includes Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. We don't know when exactly Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+, but 2022 is likely.

Check out what appears to be a first look at McGregor's Obi-Wan beard below:

Liam Neeson in a Qui-Gon cameo would be so sweet.

He'd only be a voice as part of the cosmic force though..

It has to be a flashback or else it would kinda break the canon in half.

Obi Wan is supposed to be the first one who manages to retain his entire self of the living force inside the cosmic force.

I mean, they realize Obi Wan had a beard in A New Hope, right? He had to grow it sometime. Even though it only makes sense for Liam Neeson to have a cameo, I'm not sure Ewan McGregor having a beard in this confirms it lol.

@CorndogBurglar - that's what I thought when reading it.utter utter stupidity

Liams ghost would look pretty old lol. They’d have to de age him plus make him translucent with a blue tint.

@micvalpro - 30-something Luke Skywalker showed up recently. Pretty sure they can cover it.

That's would be great, one of the best parts of the phantom menace was Qui-Gon and Obi-wans father and son dynamic. Obi seeing Qui- Gon die and holding him after is still one of the best scenes of the Star Wars franchise.

WTF!

Hayden Christensen coming back?

WHY?

@Waddles - Plenty of ways it could suck too. But I am looking forward to this and think it will be good.

@Waddles - Wouldn't he be to old for flashbacks?
Also why would Obi see him in a force vision or something if he's already Darth Vader? Remember he doesn't know where Obi is in the universe until "SW-New Hope" !

Doesn't make sense to me.

I want this kind of scenes for Darth Vador in ObiWan with some remaining Jedi or rebels but different from Rogue One

@RevanOfKrypton - I want a scene of a Stormtrooper, sitting in a bar telling the Endor Holocaust story.

(Yes, I'm aware it isn't chronologically possible in this series. I just want stories about Ewoks suffering, even if it's propaganda.)

@Reeds2Much - hahaha

But you have to admit that between Gungans and Porgs.. Ewoks are the lesser evil

Would be a shame not to have Neeson return as Qui-Gon. This show has so much potential, so I hope they use it

Every time I look at Prequel Obi Wan now I just see the hippy dudes who always had the best weed but required that you smoke it out of a bong

I think Obi-Wan has strayed from his Jedi path and now that he faces a great challenge, Qui-Gon will help his old friend to become the Jedi he once was.

@Repian - I would listen to that pitch for Obi-Wan

The Last Samurai meets Trainspotting.

Heck of a pitch!
