Well, it looks like Gina Carnao won't be returning as Cara Dune for the third season of The Mandalorian.
The actress has been a source of controversy for quite some time now, and a recent social media post (since deleted) that seemed to infer that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust, was evidently the final straw.
i09 shared the following statement from Lucasfilm:
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
This is not the first time the former MMA star has come in for backlash on social media, but this latest post received a lot of attention, and resulted in #FireGinaCarano trending on Twitter again.
Carano was set to reprise the role of former Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune for The Mandalorian season 3, and was expected to feature prominently in the recently announced Rangers of the New Republic spin-off. It also sounds like there might have been plans for her to headline yet another Disney+ Star Wars show.
