After recently wrapping the pilot, Ava DuVernay's Naomi adaptation is officially moving forward at The CW. The series is based on the character created by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, who debuted in Naomi #1 (March 2019).
In the comics, the character hails from an alternate universe where the reduction of the Earth's ozone layer led to 29 people developing superhuman abilities. Naomi is the first child to be born from two people possessing these superhuman abilities and is sent to Earth-0 (mainstream DC Comics Earth) to protect her from a would-be world conqueror.
Naomi has superhuman strength, durability and energy manipulation on par with Superman. She goes on to eventually join the Justice League.
Elsewhere, The CW has revealed that it has passed on Black Lightning spinoff focusing on Jordan Calloway's Painkiller. With the series finale of Black Lightning set to air later tonight, the future of the show in the Arrowverse looks pretty bleak, although THR notes that there's a possibility that the spinoff could land on HBO Max.
