Having played the beta alot i can say its not very good and after the last patch it made it worse . i do think its going to do well on pc but its bound for fail on teh ps3 the price of a sub is just to much.

it is fun tho and if the added more powers and weapons id have alot more fun but as of now iv played if for less than a month and im completely bored of it .

Shame really city of heroes was rather good.

Well I've played the PS3 Beta and I love it. After patching up I can finally say that it's ready to be released. I can't wait to play this game to it's full potential.

It comes out January 11, 2011.

Roscoe182 - 12/28/2010, 8:11 AM
Marvel had the idea first ... it was called Marvel universe online but they dropped it after learning DC were much closer to a finished game kinda sucks but DC were just smarter about it by keeping it quiet .

if they drop the price im still not tempted in the least the Beta has to many problems IMO from stupidly small text to freezes/crashing . Jan 11th release is abit to soon if you ask me ... witch no 1 did lol

marveluniverse72 @ Why becoz its Marvel lol? DC rules in most fields I'm afraid, from TV to movies to animated's, both have gr8 comic book titles tho!

Roscoe @ Oh didn't know that lol.

Gotta agree with you their leee DC are in front in terms of how the cater to their audience.

i do think Marvel would of made a great game tho. as long as sega had nothing to do with it.

@ Airbeyonder i think this is a good game but the problems are just to much. more MMO fans are going to be playing this than comic fans and from what i can gather they aren't to impressed with the functionality of the game so far their seems to be a lack of features .

SHH @ I'll pop there now dude!

Roscoe182
Roscoe182 - 12/28/2010, 8:39 AM
yer i think Disney need to help marvel along with some of their animated films and even their games .

it will no doubt sell big but i dont think it will last aslong as say world of warcraft. at least on ps3 it wont pc id think it will be around for years.

I won't harp on it too much because I've covered it in other threads, but this game will not be worth a sub. It's a decent action game, but there are so many other action games out there of equal or better quality with no sub fee and more content (it's really lacking). All I keep hearing on the beta boards is "the potential" but I be danged if I'm going to pay a monthly sub fee for potential that may or may not ever be reached.
marvel72
marvel72 - 12/28/2010, 9:15 AM
@ leee777

my personal opinion i think marvel has better characters, you could be a mutant & join the rest of them on utopia,a horsemen of apocalyspe, hearld of galactus or a member of the nova corps.

yes definetly marvel online would better.

tv shows-wonder woman(70s) & the flash, everything else not that great.

animation-yes they lead the way in animation batman & justice league unlimited also some of their direct to dvd are good.

films-batman(4)superman(2)watchmen & v for vendetta thats about it.

LEEE777 - 12/28/2010, 9:18 AM
ROS @ I've never actually ever played World of Warcraft lol!

Only fantasy games I've played last = Baulders Gate 1 & 2 we're awesome though on PS2/X-BOX!

Dunno why I've never played WoW, never appealed to me.

Ambush @ Yeah the sub fee thing does kinda suck!

But @ DP, Mutants don't beat the JLA dude, in fact not even The Avengers beat that! : P

But yeah it would be awesome if Marvel did something, love my WEB OF SHADOWS game and Alliance games!

@Roscoe182

Whoa dude.... I'm pretty sure MARVEL was making their MMO years before DC had even hatched the idea. I recall seeing the trailer for Marvel Online six years ago, and the trailer for DCUO a good two/three years after... I'm pretty sure the real reason they dropped the title was that Cryptic decided they were too busy with City of Heroes and Champions Online. Otherwise we would have gotten a finished product by now.

Hey Leee, I played City of Heroes as well, and I was [frick]ing addicted to that shit. I was twelve when I started playing, and I was like that kid that goes [frick]ing crazy when his WoW subscription gets cancelled. Those weren't my finest years I'll tell you that...

@ indoraptor12

thats not what id heard and read but it dont matter as it was never made but from what i understand marvel got so far in the production of the game and then DC started on theirs and had gotten alot further but its mostly hear say the official reason was never made public.

The beta i have big problems with its very unstable for many different reason( ps3 ) if im in an area with say 30 other players and a few of them are just messing around with their powers it will freeze my PS3 . the text is stupid i have a 40 inch LCD tv and i have to get up to read alot of the things and considering i already sit to close to my tv its more than stupid. their is all so a lack of super powers to use but im sure more are coming but for now its pretty poor.the render and draw distance is all so very poor

as iv said this game will not do well on the ps3 at all out of all the ppl iv spoken to about it no 1 would pay the sub fee its just to much.the game being as unstable as it is will ruin the playstation if they do not sort out the many crashes and freezes.

IMHO if you want to play a game where you are a super hero play City of heroes . i beta tested that aswell and its 10x the game that DCUO is or ever will be.

and im a massive DC gaming mmo fan

@Lansdowne5

LOL maybe not that bad. I'll tell you what happened though. I would always get up when my family fell asleep and I would spend the entire night playing even when I had school the next day. I remember I was up at night playing on a task force and my dad came in and told me to go to bed. I didn't get off and then the shit hit the fan when my whole family came in yelling and screaming for an hour trying to force me off. They would repeatedly turn off the computer but I would come back and turn it back on and continue playing. We were in an apartment so the commotion created a huge stir outside. I tried explaining to them how IMPORTANT this task force was. (but you know parents never listen. ;P) Nights like these happened quite frequently when I was younger and I would often say to my teammates that my temporary absence was because of a "family crises." My dad started taking preventative measures and would take the mouse and keyboard to work with him, but that didn't stop my resourceful mind. I would buy used mice from the computer store or even jack one or two from the school computers. Yeah, I was a bad kid when I was little. I'm better now. Don't worry. :P

Lee, pfffft, my 5 year old daughter could beat up the JLA ;P Seriously though, lets not turn this comment board into a Marvel vs DC (cause we all know Marvel would win ;P).

I've checked out the beta and I gotta say I am not impressed at all. I was looking forward to this game, but I played a few hours of the beta and this game isn't even as good as City of Heroes. Warcraft is still the reigning king of MMO by a long shot. And the screen shots they've been releasing are very deceptive. Those graphics will only be attained if you have one of those $2,000 Alienware PC's or something like it. I doubt seriously that PS3 will even look as good as these screen shots would lead you to believe. Honestly I'm tempted to cancel my pre-order.

The subscription fee isn't much. $15 a month is pretty standard for a well made MMO (assuming all the problems in the beta are solved this game could be one of those well made MMO's). I'm sure many of you spend far more than that on your monthly comics... I know I do, AND I've played WoW for 5 years and keep my Xbox live paid up, and I am by no means a rich fella. My advice to any of you curious about this game, or any MMO for that matter, don't let the subscription fee deter you. I did for a looong time til I broke down and started playing WoW, and ever since, I've never felt that my money was wasted.

Roscoe182, I actually subscribed to CoH for a short while, but that game gets very monotonous. Even the environments in that game stay relatively the same and the enemies are all the same as you progress, they just get harder to kill.

Marvel was making an MMO long before DC but they did not like the direction the company making it (Cryptic Studios who originally made City of Heroes) was taking so they backed out. Cryptic then bought the rights to the table top RPG Champions and the game became Champions Online.

Having played all three games (City of Heroes, Champions, DCU) I say without a doubt that City of Heroes all though several years old is still the best Super Hero MMO out there.

TheDemonHunter - 12/28/2010, 2:15 PM
I've been in the DCUO Beta as well. It's not that much fun after the last few patches ramped up the difficulty to make it so you're getting your ass handed to you by the rank and file thugs who work for the actual name villains. "The Next Legend is You" should not be the advertising tagline for a game where you're overmatched by minions and lieutenants if you fight more than three or four at a time. You're supposed to be a superhero/supervillain, and they've taken a lot of that feeling away.

By the way, PC players are stuck with a control scheme designed for PS3, not optimized for PC keyboard/mouse setups. If you think the PS3 players have it bad, any PC player complaints about the game's controls would often get a reply of "well if you use a controller instead...." Yeah. I think I'll pass.

@Roscoe182 -- Marvel's MMO from Cryptic and Microsoft was shut down before DC's was announced I think, and Cryptic used the work they'd put into that to make Champions after securing the license for that IP in place of Marvel. Seeing the hot mess that Champions is, I'm glad that it never hit for Marvel.

@TheMyth -- When Cryptic began work on the Marvel/Champions MMO, they'd already begun negotiations at least to sell their half of CoH to NCSoft IIRC, which was the best thing that ever happened to CoH. Since then, the game has gotten much better, with more content and more options than you ever had in Cryptic's day running things. No more of Jack Emmert's "vision" for the game where a hero is equal to three minions and no more.
