During Tuesday evening's State of Play, PlayStation revealed an awesome new story trailer for God of War Ragnarok (via SFFGazette.com). There's a lot of excitement surrounding the sequel, and while the title has been shrouded in secrecy up until fairly recently, it appears Sony is finally ready to start showing off what the Santa Monica Studio team has come up with.

Giving us a better idea of what's to come in this epic adventure, the three-minute preview explains how this game picks up where 2018's God of War left off. We also get to see Thor and Odin in action along with more thrilling father/son team-ups.

"Set out on an epic and unflinching journey as Kratos and Atreus struggle with holding on and letting go," reads the game's synopsis. "Witness the changing dynamic of their relationship as they prepare for war; Atreus hungers for knowledge to help him grasp the prophecy of 'Loki,' as Kratos struggles to free himself from the past and be the father his son needs."

"All the while," it concludes, "the eyes of Asgard watch their every move..."

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Amazon Prime Video is in talks with Sony to develop a live-action God of War TV series, so this franchise's future is looking very bright indeed. The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are producing the show alongside The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins, so we're hoping for more updates in the not-too-distant future.

It goes without saying that we hope to have more to share on this one soon as we're sure Sony will pull out all the stops to hype what will likely be their biggest game of 2022. For the latest, you'll want to stay tuned to GameFragger.com and SFFGazette.com.

God of War Ragnarok arrives on the Playstation 5 and Playstation 4 on November 9.

2:02 love the visuals with the trees

I switched from Playstation to PC, so its gonna be a while until I will be able to play this game, but yeah, it looks outstanding. GoW games were always great, but with the last one they reached some high-end shit level. But hey, its Sony, their first-party stuff is usually VERY GOOD. Probably my favorite publisher.

@Razorface1 - Yeah, I bet when the God of War designers saw fat Thor in Endgame, they were like , "Aww crap."

I'm really excited for this game. Really glad they jump right into Ragnarok and didn't make prelude game to it first (I guess that could've been called Fimbulwinter).

THIS is how you adapt Norse Mythology, Feige.

@soberchimera - Kinda weird given Feige never tried to adapt Norse Mythology, but aight.

@Razorface1 - given Feige never tried to adapt Norse Mythology
Bit of an exaggerated statement considering the Thor movies. Even I will concede that he at least tried, but to say he didn't even bother to try is just mean dude.

@soberchimera - He was adapting *the comic books*, not norse myth. He had to pay no regard to straying from myth, only to adapting the Marvel Comic Books.

Which are heavily BASED off Norse myth as is this video game.
Razorface1
Razorface1 - 9/15/2022, 5:41 PM
@soberchimera - Yes, but he is not adapting norse myth directly. All he had to adapt was based on the comics, which are VERY different from the myths, and he had to adapt what was on the comics, not which was on myth.

This is legit like complaining the Dragonball evolution was not close enough to Journey to the West.

@Razorface1 - I think most would agree that the MCU adaptation of the Thor comics were not very faithful to the original source material though. The MCU went more for a sci-fi, comedic approach rather than the ethereal and epic approach in the comics.
