Mortal Kombat 1, which will serve as both a sequel to MK 11 and a soft reboot of the iconic fighting game series, is set to hit shelves on September 14, and NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games have now debuted a new live-action trailer featuring none other than Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Dune: Part 2).

In the teaser, we see Bautista's librarian (who seems to be an avatar of Fire God Liu Kang) rally a group of potential players, who let loose a familiar war cry.

The promo pays homage to the original Mortal Monday commercial that aired in 1993 to promote Mortal Kombat's console launch, and featured the now iconic "MORTAL KOMBAAAAT!" scream.

“I vividly remember the original Mortal Monday commercial, especially the iconic scream," said Bautista in a press release. "That’s what started my journey as a fan of Mortal Kombat, which continues to this day 30 years later. I’m very thrilled and honored to be a part of the game’s legacy.”

"The original Mortal Monday commercial earmarked the beginning of our journey into making games for home gaming systems," adds co-creator Ed Boon. "It's amazing to pay homage to such a memorable moment in Mortal Kombat history as we get ready to launch our newest game, Mortal Kombat 1."

Check out the live-action "It's In Our Blood" trailer below, and let us know if you plan on picking up the game when it releases next month.

“With Mortal Kombat 1 we are bringing a reimagined universe to the legendary franchise which has captivated gamers for more than 30 years and continues to top itself,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “The talented team at NetherRealm Studios continues to push the series forward in bold ways that have consistently expanded the global audience, and we believe Mortal Kombat 1 will continue to attract new players as well as thrill our core fans.”

“Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise and we couldn’t be more excited to share this original storyline and fresh take on classic characters with our fans,” added Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer, NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat. “We’re also introducing our Kameo Fighter system which brings a unique roster of partner characters into the mix, and we are looking forward to showing this feature as well as more new elements of the game very soon.”

Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on September 19.

Reeeeeeally slow news year now.

@Origame - the SAFE-T ACT begins a day before this release date (Sept 18th) in Illinois.

I'm guessing slow news will be the least of our worries.

@VictorAlonzo - I'm pretty sure most people don't care about Illinois.

@TheyDont - Well, those of us born and raised in the Chicago suburbs and still have family there do. And I'm pretty sure the folks at NetherRealm Studio do, because that's where they're located (my younger brother is a game designer there). So, yeah, there's that...

@Demigods - as opposed to where you live? 🤨

Face it: the world is on a rapid decline. Pestilence, famine, wars, and natural calamities are going on all over the globe.

I'm guessing you've likely never been to Chicago. I also feel safe assuming equal levels of 🦬💩 is happening around you. 😐

@VictorAlonzo - haha oh I agree so so much, so don't take what I was saying in that manner. I completely agree that where I live is becoming even more of a shit hole than it already is because of idiotic policies like that. I live in Philly, which is on par with Chicago on many levels, obviously just on a bit of a smaller scale. I was not trying to act like where I live is any better or worse than your situation, just that idiots and rampant and unchecked crime are (or at least from my outside view-seem to be) destroying your city and making it unbearable to be in.

I have been to Chicago a few times. I did enjoy my visits, but to be honest, if I travel nowadays, going to a different city is hardly what I'd consider a good time. It's just harder to find the time to do the things I love, like Ice climbing, camping, sitting on a beach, etc. Now, I prefer to chill with the people that matter to me, rather than surround myself with strangers that do not, so city life has very little appeal, even though I'm locked into one.

But yeah, that comment wasn't to talk shit on you, so much as all city politics (or I guess all politics) in general. Sorry about that. No harm intended.

@TheFinestSmack -
I'm up for it. Netflix at the very least is approaching these with accuracy and attention to detail. I'm actually looking forward to their new wave of anime/manga adaptations.

Weird for them to reboot 3 games after their last reboot

Last reboot retold the first 3 games

Now they seem to be retelling the first game

GetsugaTensho22

@dracula - these aren’t true reboots, they’re multiversal stories presented as alternate timelines.
The original story happened, then Dark Raiden sent his memories to an alternate Raiden to prevent Armageddon in MK9.

Now, Liu Kang won control of the hourglass and created his own pocket universe, which is MK1.

CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/30/2023, 3:44 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - The one on the right is just his lizard form. He actually shape shifts in this one. It finally explains why Reptile looked human but when he took his mask off it was suddenly a lizard head.

@CorndogBurglar - They could have just made him shapeshift into the form he has on the left image. His reptilian form was always humanoid looking. Now he's a giant naked lizard monster.

Honestly, if they hadn't already kasted and/or killed him off, he'd make a pretty intimidating Goro.

Ah well, there's always Shao Kahn, Baraka or Quan Chi.

@asherman93 - All the kharacters that died in the first movie will be back. Or, the ones they want to bring back anyway. They basically told us as much at the end of the first movie. Shang Tsung is going to revive them.

Even Kung Lao is going to be in the sequel, which is really the only person I didn't think even KOULD kome back konsidering Shang Tsung ate his soul.
