At the end of this year's live-action Mortal Kombat movie, we got a big tease that there are plans for Johnny Cage to appear in the sequel (which still hasn't been announced). Fans have plenty of ideas about who should play him, but in the world of animation, it's Community's Joel McHale who brings the fast-talking, smart ass fighter to life.
The actor reprises the role in Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms after first playing Johnny in Scorpion's Revenge, and he's proven himself a perfect fit for the iconic character.
With that in mind, would Joel be open to playing the hero in live-action?
While he's a little older than the Johnny from the video games, there are countless ways he could be portrayed on screen, and a slightly older action star isn't exactly out of the norm these days (Joel is only 49 and currently playing Starman in The CW's Stargirl, remember).
"Well, they haven’t called yet, but sure," he laughed when we asked if he'd be interested in reprising the role in the Mortal Kombat sequel. "I’m sure that’s going to go to some young super handsome actor who will be super good and have lots of abs. I can’t imagine they would ask me, but hey, I’m available! I’m only going to ask for 30 million dollars upfront..."
While it's true that there are a lot of younger actors out there who would be great for Johnny Cage, we can't help but want this to happen - particularly after watching Battle of the Realms. Either way, we're sure a third instalment of this animated franchise can't be too far off!
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is available now on 4K/Blu-ray & Digital!
