Actor Casper Van Dien, who played the charismatic and egocentric Johnny Cage in the third season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy has begun training for the third season. Van Dien recently posted the following on Instagram and Twitter...

"It has begun!" is of course, quoting Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa who played Shang Tsung in the 1995 feature film adaptation of Mortal Kombat as well as in the second season of Legacy.

While Legacy has garnered millions of views for Machinima, the second season wasn't well received and in October of last year, director Kevin Tancharoen had announced his departure from Mortal Kombat.

Machinima also released the truly terrific Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, another series based on a popular fighting game franchise.

I thought Legacy 2 was better than the 1st one, but still needs improvement. Assassin's Fist was kick a$$!!! Whoever made that NEEDS to make MKL3. But I'm more interested in seeing Season 2 of Assassin's Fist, first or whatever it's going to be called.

Assassin's Fist was directed by Joey Ansah (who played Akuma) and written by Ansah and Christian Howard (who played Ken).

Joey has talked about wanting to do another season with possibly Chun-Li and Shadowloo. He wants Scott Adkins as Guile.

It's all leading to a World Warrior movie. They wanted to do a World Warrior series originally but realized it would be too big to do on a modest budget.

The Street Fighter: Legacy short they made a few years ago was actually financed by Capcom but Capcom got cold feet and wanted to detach themselves from the project. So they agreed to allow Joey to release it as a fan film.

Mortal Kombat: Rebirth was just Kevin Tancharoen attempting to direct Saw as a Kung Fu movie after changing the characters names to those of MK characters. No mysticism. No personality. A bland, "gritty," reimagining that I personally hated.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy (season 1) had no respect for the canon or atmosphere of the games. I understand adaptations are necessary when converting mediums, but his interpretation was LESS cohesive than the already vague plots and storylines from the video game. Also, his direction is boring.

Season 2 was just pure garbage without any redeeming qualities. It made me ashamed to be an MK fan. And if the WB had any sense they'd scrap this project before another failed outing prevents a decent MK movie from being made.
