Star Wars the Old Republic - A Struggle for Subscribers...

News broke late last night that EA will be offering the first 15 levels of gameplay for free on the highly anticipated Star Wars the Old Republic MMO that came out in December of 2011. The article mentions that they lost 400,000 subscribers just last month to the game. The hope is that by offering this free content they can continue to develop a paying fan base. Just a little over 6 months since the launch of the game and they are already struggling for subscribers? (For the record they currently say they have 1,000,000 subscriptions.) With a price-tag of estimated $100 - 300 million dollars in development costs, it is beginning to look like EA is desperate to make this game work.

The game was fun for the most part, but for hard core mmorpg gamers the end game was a major let down. It was riddled with glitches and felt more like playing a beta version than a retail copy.

ea was listed as one of the top ten tech companies that were "on the ropes" financially (along with sony).

i still have a hard time thinking that i need to may a monthly subscription for a game that i already spent $50 or $60 bucks for.

I would play it if it was F2P (I bought the game and had a membership for a month then I cancelled because it doesnt seem worth the money. Mainly due to the fact that most servers are empty and they dont allow server transfers or dont merge the servers).

I played it, but noone wanted an MMO. They wanted another Knights of the Old Republic RPG, so once the stories done, they quit playing. At least that was what I did.

I said it day 1 this game was bad. They avoided consoles, but consoles was probably the one thing that would have saved this game... I canceled my membership after the 1st week.

I played this game religiously for a few months, even pre-ordered and everything. At first I really enjoyed the game, all the character classes, that stuff. But once you hit level 25-30 I just stopped caring about the character. Everything ended up the same old thing. Felt like the original Everquest, just modernized with Lightsabers. I still can't forgive the game for the horrible Space Combat.

They won't save this game unless they get rid of the current dev team.
