In recognition of the beta community's great support and feedback, and to celebrate the impending 1/11/11 launch of DC Universe Online, SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) will be closing the DCUO beta tonight with a cataclysmic beta ending event, "Battle of the Legends."

Based on the events revealed this summer in the "Who Do You Trust?" cinematic trailer, Beta players can align and fight alongside or against some of DC Comics' most legendary heroes and villains, including Batman, Superman, Lex Luthor and The Joker. Join in the battle and take this last shot at creating your legacy! Become part of this epic conflict when it erupts on your server.

If for some reason you're unable to attend, don't worry - the DCUO team will be providing updates on the status of the battles on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/DCUniverseOnline. There will aslo be some "legendary" guests joining in on the fun, playing as the iconic characters:

At 6PM PT (Wednesday, January 5th) fight alongside comics legend Jim Lee aka "Future Batman" as he takes on IGN's Nick "Guyman McMonocle" Kolan and his league of villains in Gotham Botanical Gardens! (PC players only)

At 7PM Jim Lee will defend humanity as "Future Batman" in the Botanical Gardens against the evil duo of IGN Editors Greg "Blue Business" Miller and Hilary "The Temp" Goldstein! PS3 beta gamers can jump in and assist the Dark Knight, or help IGN rain evil down on the universe!

@Roscoe182, to me it wasn't any better on the PC either. The worse beta of any major MMO I've ever participated in. The game has potential as an action game (though how the public is going to feel about paying monthly for this is yet to be seen), but it's only potential for now. IMO this game is nowhere near ready for release. It's definitely not for me, but I wish them all of the luck in the world with it.

@ ambushbug .. that's how i feel about the ps3 version it is not ready and that is pretty much the end of the story as far as im concerned .. if the game is crashing because their is a large amount of ppl in 1 are then the problem is with the netcode an that should take priority over anything it makes the game unplayable ..

i can tell you how most of my buddys feel about the price . we all think its to much and with no lifetime sub for ps3 i will not be buying renting or lending the game its to much.

the all so said that you guys on pc would be able to play with us on the ps3 . they even said they had it working in the labs but when the game is released you wont be able to sucks really.

all in all the game will do well on pc i think it will die and die fast on the console. MMO's are not for console .

i do want to add im not just bashing the game iv beta tested a lot of games in my years pc and console but this 1 is very unstable and really does need another month in development .

How about DC video games = Gold...except for Aquaman...that was an aberration. Oh yeah, and the Superman games kinda sucked too. WoW, I am totally off my game here today, how bout "sometimes the sun shines on a dogs *$$"? I gots nuthin. This game is lookin good though.

The games ok...heck what am i kidding the games freaking awesome! For a couple of days then its so repetitive you just want to race cars or read some comic books, The stories are ok but the voice acting is very weak. For $15 a month or a $200 for life plan plus the added $60 price tag you would think they would have went all out and got some good voice talents to do Booster Gold or Got N.P.H to re-voice Nightwing or The Flash. Now see I was coming in here to complement the game and the more I think about it it was a very Super experiences, you just kinda run or fly around hitting stuff. I mean yeah so the maps are really huge but theres hardly anything different to do than hit stuff, and carry stuff back and fourth, I canceled my Pre order also never got emailed my beta code so I had to Sign up for Playstation Plus, so just plying the game cost me $20 just to play the beta, which was great fun for a little while just being in the dc universe, but Gotham and Metropolis both looks the same just ones night and ones day. I could rag on this game all day but some where Sony is reading this and there billing me for commenting right now, so i will leave you with this if you want to pay $260 to play one game your as crazy as The Joker!

I wish I had a Playstation 3 because this game looks so bada$$.I think they should do a movie that looks exactly like the trailer in this article. Those graphics are off the chart. They could make it a 5 or 6 hour epic film.

The Battle of the Legends was pretty awesome. Jim Lee did not play as Batman though, he played Joker instead. Myself and two friends where right in the thick of battle when we killed him and my friend was actually the guy who tied him up when Jim Lee died. The game is well worth the $17 bucks a month.

@ArrionShadow are you complaining or complementing the game? You seem to be jumping back and forth. When you are typing online you should only listen to one voice at a time.

@Roscoe
I was in the PC version, over al the PC beta was decently smooth. It had some bugs but I've been in far waorse beta's I also got to play the PS3 beta at my friends house in early PS3 Beta and I know what you're talking about I was reading they had most of that fixed in the last month or so on PS3 and my friend said it was a lot better, but still had some issues. Not sure when you played it.

But PC beta was decent. Though the event last night caused some issues, But I also think it's the first time they had that many players in a single spot of the city at once before. So I'm sure that's an issue they'll be looking into and fixing before the next large event.

But to people that don't usually do Beta's that's pretty standard (Just FYI I've been beta testing MMO's on PC since EQ.. yes I'm old leave me alone. :P )for a beta so it's not the sky is falling moment lol.

@ Arrion,

Clearly you never made it past level 10. Or did the Batcave raid at 30. Sadly I can't call you out on this and make you prove you're actually in there or have done anything in it at all because the beta is now closed. But just from your comments alone anyone in the beta that got past 10 knows you didn't do anything in it.

Beta was fun, but I totally missed the event. I didn't even know it was happening until after it was over. I was only 15 badges from my first PVP epic too. F*@#!

I'm a long-time City of Heroes player. One of my buddies was in the Beta. He had a lot of hope for DCUO, but after playing it for a while he said:

1) It was a great looking game with the characters and environment well done.
2) It plays more like a console game, with limited controls and all action, little interaction.
3) The content is very limited. Much of the content is repetative.

My buddy got bored with it and was not interested in purchasing the game -- not enough variety, not enough interaction between players. While the game has potential, he felt that it needs some improvements in the interface (for PC) and a lot more content. (He continues to play City of Heroes with us after over 5 years.) However, his teenage son really likes it and played the beta quite a bit.

I do not trust anyone with this game or the online site. I pre-purchased the game for the beta and sent the info before Christmas and No Beta. Will not even try to play it now.
