VIDEO GAMES: EA's STAR WARS Deal To Last For Ten Years; Games Won't Be Based On The Movies
EA's Blake Jorgensen has confirmed that EA and Disney's Star Wars deal will last for the next ten years, and while that means we should expect to see plenty of new games set in that universe, none of them will be directly based on Star Wars Episode VII or its sequels! Read on for details.
Talking at the UBS Global Technology Conference, EA's Blake Jorgensen revealed that Disney "knew that we could help them develop really great games and we struck what we believe is a fantastic deal which allows us to be able to build games in many different genres across multiple types of platforms over 10 years. We’ll leverage the strength of the Disney marketing associated with the Star Wars properties both in movies and other things that they may do over the timeframe." However, when he was asked specifically about whether or not any of their planned releases will be based on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII or its subsequent sequels, Jorgensen said that EA are working only on "new games that we’re inventing around their content, around the broad Star Wars content, and around some of the new assets that they may produce over time as well. The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is that it's so broad and so deep, you don’t have to do a movie game, you can do a game that's very focused on the world that's been created around Star Wars." So, while we won't be getting any direct tie-in's to the new movies, these games will at least borrow locations and characters from them! First up for EA is the new Star Wars Battlefront. How do you guys feel about this news?
