George R.R. Martin is a busy man these days.
Last month
on his blog, the
Game of Thrones author rattled off a number of projects he's working on (in addition to finishing the long awaited books), and one of them appeared to be a video game with a Japanese developer.
It was later reported that Martin was working with famed developer FromSoftware, creators of
Dark Souls and
Bloodborne. The game was set to be revealed at E3, but it appears that some of the details have leaked ahead of the big show.
Publisher Bandai Namco appeared to upload some of their E3 files to their servers in preparation for E3, and it didn't take long for data miners to discover them. Their findings revealed the name of the game to be
Elden Ring, and there was even some key art containing a logo for it.
Martin originally said he worked as a consultant on the project, but it appears - based on a portion of the text description that also leaked - he had a larger role in creating the game's world. The description confirms
Elden Ring will be a fantasy action-RPG.
"ELDEN RING, developed by FromSoftware, Inc. and BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc., is a fantasy action-RPG adventure set within a world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki – creator of the influential DARK SOULS video game series; and George R.R. Martin – author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
Danger and discovery lurk around every corner in FromSoftware’s largest game to-date. Hidetaka Miyazaki, President and Game Director of FromSoftware Inc. known for directing critically-acclaimed games in beloved franchises including Armored Core, Dark Souls, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice..."
Unfortunately, the description ends halfway through, but we'll likely find out more at E3.
Elden Ring is expected to be revealed during Microsoft's E3 conference on Sunday, June 9 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
Also expected to be revealed at E3 is
Square Enix's mysterious Marvel's Avengers video game. Meanwhile, EA
will debut gameplay footage from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order at EA Play on Saturday, June 8 at 9:30 a.m.. PT.
