Gal Gadot Talks About Her Wonder Woman Research And Lynda Carter's Rendition

While we wait for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to hit theatres, Gal Gadot talks about her research for the role of Wonder Woman with Total Film. She also went on to talk about how her version differs from that of Lynda Carter's version of Wonder Woman. Check it out!

When an actor receives a comic book movie role, they tend to research their hero or villain by diving into the latest or classic comics. In her interview with Total Film Magazine, Gal Gadot opened up about her research and history with Wonder Woman.

"Wonder Woman's a household name, I think, everywhere. She's an icon. I wasn't born during the Wonder Woman show with Lynda Carter, so I didn't get to see that, but I did watch the cartoon. And of course, after I got the role, I started to watch all the Lynda Carter series with Wonder Woman and she was fantastic. I absolutely love her. But it was a no-brainer. Everyone in Israel knows who Wonder Woman is."

During the interview Gal was asked about Lynda Carter's interpretation and how it differs from that of her own version.

"I think that the Lynda Carter version was very relevant back in the '70s. Now, Zack Snyder is in collaboration with Patty Jenkins, who's going to direct [the solo Wonder Woman] movie. All of us want to evolve the character because what you saw back then, you've already seen. So we're going to give it another layer of interpretation and make her a bit more relevant and up to date."

I'm curious to see how much they "evolve" the character of Wonder Woman and whether or not that means more than just modernizing her for today's audience.

She watched the cartoon. I loved Bruce Timm's WW, so that's pretty cool to hear.

She's spot on: the Wonder Woman of the 70's was relevant for the 70's, but not necessarily for 2015. But just as Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman was adapted to the general audience of the time, and just as Marvel's heroes have been adapted to the general audience, so Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman needs to be relevant to the general audience, not just the comic book audience.

It's Alessandra Ambrosio in that picture. Doesn't even look like Gal, come on.

Two charming, gorgeous, skeletally thin women. I have no idea if Gadot can deliver as an actor, but I'll never fully accept her as Diana. Girls have enough body image problems in our culture without an anorexic looking Wonder Woman.

If by "update" they mean do the ol' Zack Snyder charm of "Saturate every color in everyones costume until it looks black. EVERYTHING MUST BE BATMAN" then hey looks like they're off to a good (and shitty) start!

Lynda Carter will always be my Wonder Woman...I was 9 yrs old when the show originally aired. After suffering the horrific incantation that was tossed to us by Cathy Lee Crosby in 1974, Lynda came along and made Wonder Woman come to life...for real. I'm probably in the minority when it comes to liking Adrienne Paliki in the role as well. (Though her costume left much to be desired)...but she had the height, the build, and the acting talent for the part and probably could have pulled off the role perfectly on the big screen.

Now comes Gal. A relative unknown. Thinking back...what was one thing a lot of fans had hoped for when WW was cast? They wanted the lead to be an unknown. It seems we got that. Only time will tell how well Gal does in the role. But by her enthusiasm, the writing, an amazing director and good supporting cast, I think she's going to own this role. At least I hope she does. She wasn't my first pick to play the part, but I'm beginning to accept her more in it.
