Who should Wonder Womans love interest be in the next WW movie? (Spoilers)

Steve Trevor was an amazing love interest in the first Wonder Woman movie. He was humorous, brave, stood on his own as a hero in his own right, and he (spoilers) for what he believed in, inspiring Diana

Steve Trevor was all around a great, 3 dimensional, fully formed character, and a hero in his own right. He fought along side Diana, and proved himself again and again as a hero. So, when Wonder Woman 2 comes around, rumored to be set in present day, who will be the love interest?

First off, they could go with no love interest, but that could only work if they make things different enough from the Winter Soldier, another superhero movie with no love interest, and a character from an old war, now in the modern world. It obviously could be done, as Wonder Woman really isn't all that similar to Cap despite what some say, but after the great stuff done with Steve Trevor by Patty Jenkins, do we really want no love interest? After all, Wonder Woman is all about love.

how will they top Steve Trevor in the sequel? I've only got three guesses for where that could go.

1. Batman love interest
2. Great grand nephew of Steve played by same actor
3. Lesbian Amazon

Choice 2 probably won't happen due to it being too similar to movie ones love interest, and a bit of a cop out, but at the same time, could be a cool story to tell behind that idea. Imagine if he was nothing like his grand uncle, a coward or a jerk or something,  but the only connection Diana has left to Steve?

Batman also seems unlikly because it takes away from this being Wonder Woman's movie, and contributes to the over saturation of Batman. Then again, it's a way for WW to get her invisible jet. I'm sure Wayne enterprises has something like that somewhere.

3 could be interesting, and it would mean the sequel could involve WW trying to get back to Themes... Paradise Island, which could get Cheetah involved, but I'm not sure WB would want to create that controversy. Honestly it would turn every Wonder Woman article on this site into a complete sh*t storm.

It really comes down to whats the best story that could be told from the love interests, so I'm gonna go with either Chris pine jr. or lesbian Amazon. Or... what if they go the winter soldier/ star sapphire route? Lesbian love interest is the human Barbara Minerva, who gets transformed by magic themebongbongding artifact into Cheetah! That would be so tragic, and amazing, and it's a departure from the comics but not really, because in some universes they were friends before her transformation!!!!!! Imagine the storytelling possiblities that could come from this!

Or they could avoid the love interest altogether, as I mentioned earlier, and have it be a story about Barbera and Wonder Womans "friendship" with a few nods to the gays in the audience, to keep them and the anti gay groups  happy at the same time, but that seems too "corporate" and trying to please everyone never works.

Matte Steve Trevor grand nephew plan is always there, but at the same time, it still cheapens Steves (spoiler). You could get an interesting story though, while obviously, it would be a bit more difficult to introduce WW's greatest foe: Cheetah.

So, who do you think? Who do you think will be the love interest in Wonder Woman's sequel? Do you think they will keep it love interest less?

Side note: Would it be more appropriate to put a spoiler tag in the title or had everybody seen it by now?

My personal opinion; don't give her another one.

I think ideally I'd want the sequel to take place largely on Themyscira, perhaps with Circe as the threat and have Cheetah be her lackey.

Explore her relationship with her mother and fellow Amazonians (introduce Mala as her best friend perhaps?)

@MrMurdock - I added a spoiler warning.

Haven't seen the movie so don't if her mamma died or was even a part of it but that should be the heart of the next movie. Her fighting for the fate and protection of her mother and the Amazons. Do not make her a lesbian since it wasn't even teased this time. Fellow Amazons can be lesbians and it makes perfect sense that an all girl island would appropriate this. She though should not be. I've been assuming a flirtation between she and Batman would lead to something later anyway

I'd love to see Chris Pine return as Steve Trevor's descendant, but I really hope that would be a platonic relationship. It's too weird. The Cap stuff is weird enough.

Going with the lesbian angle could be interesting. I wouldn't mind if they bring back Steve, he was great. I trust Jenkins, so I'm down with whatever. As far as Batman goes, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some flirting and sexual tension in JL, but it'll only happen there. Him and the other leaguers need to stay the [frick] out of her solo movies.

How about don't have one? Just wondering if that's possible, but maybe that's just me.

No way they signed up Chris Pine for one movie. He'll be back as a descendant for sure and he has the range to play a completely different character so I'm not sure we'd see him as a love interest. Since we have Lois and Clark, we could see Bruce and Diana. Seeing her as his light could be cool. Will WB and DC break the next glass ceiling with the first main LGBTQ superhero on the silver screen? I wouldn't rule it out.
