WONDER WOMAN 84: New Report Reveals June 2018 Shooting Location in Virginia At Shut Down 'Landmark Mall'

With Wonder Woman 84 rushing into production this summer, a new report has emerged from the Washington Business Journal, courtesy of CBR. Already set for filming in locations such as the Canary Islands and Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesdon, England, the upcoming sequel adds Alexandria, Virginia to it's list. The follow up to the 2017 box office 'Wonder,' starring Gal Gadot & Kristen Wiig, is set to film at the now "shuttered" Landmark Mall in in June, sources tell WBJ.

The location of the 2-day shoot, The Landmark Mall in Alexandria, has been shut down since January of 2017, as owner Howard Hughes Corp. (NYSE: HHC) has plans to demolish the mall interior space and it convert it to an “open-air urban village,” complete with residences, shops, restaurants, plazas and a 10-screen IMAX movie theater. Major upgrades also are planned for the attached multi-story parking garage. So, I think it's safe to say they won't have a hard time getting a film crew in there! One can only speculate, exactly what kind of shoot does Patty Jenkins and crew have in mind here?

According to the casting report for the Alexandria, Virginia area, Marinella Hume Casting Agency recently issued a call for actors and extras for a “major feature film” shooting in Northern Virginia and the D.C. area in June of 2018. The call states they are seeking shoppers and tourists, punks, goths, skateboarders, bodybuilders and “fit exercise ladies.” It also urged prospective actors not to cut their hair prior to the open casting call.

Recently, Jenkins confirmed the movie will take place in the 1980s, which is an expected departure from the World War I setting that encompassed most of the first film, so with this casting description and the recent confirmation of when the film will be set, we should be in for quite the scene for Gal Gadot's Diana Prince. As for the villain, Kristen Wiig is set to play main foe Cheetah, with speculation pointing to the Barbara Ann Minerva (the post-Crisis and current Cheetah) incarnation of the character. It hasn't been announced yet if Chris Pine will return as Steve Trevor, but it has been rumored that he will make a brief appearance. However, some set photos from a few weeks back may have confirmed he is indeed making an appearance in the sequel.

We can expect Warner Bros. to unveil plenty of details about Wonder Woman 84 at SDCC in July, (hopefully) along with plenty of information about James Wan's (Saw, The Conjuring) upcoming Aquaman, which will hit theaters on December 21 of this year, and David F. Sandberg's Shazam!, opening on April 5, 2019.

What do you guys think this scene will have in store for Diana?

I don't get the idea to use Steve Trevor. Either they use him as a flashback which means that Wonder Woman is pining over a man and after 100 years still can't get over him - OR - if he is somehow resurrected they will create some convoluted way which would be an automatic knock against the film.

@Forthas - Yeah, I don't see why they'd want to bring him back. Maybe for a flashback scene, idk?

@L0RDbuckethead - I admit they had great chemistry and to some extent Chris Pine carried the movie. I think if they want to bring him back into the current time...one way to do it is for Wonder Woman to meet someone hero looks just like him who is a spy and somehow his interaction with Wonder Woman leads him to adopt the name of Steve Trevor. Even that seems forced but at least it would avoid plot holes.

@Forthas - Hmm that's an interesting idea... Hadn't heard that one floated around as a possibility.

Groooaaan! Why won't the DCEU just learn from their mistakes and just kill and then reboot this failed franchise? Pleeease stop embarrassing yourself and your fans. You MUST remove the Snyder taint. Sorry Patty, you did what you could with the mess they handed you. You should DEMAND better.

@Atomicockroach - I think if AT&T is successful in acquiring Warner Brothers, then a lot of people at the studio who are responsible for the DCEU will get the boot. June 12th is the date of the decision.

@Atomicockroach - Their biggest mistake was listening to the fans, and they'll be sitting with them at the premiere of Aquaman in December. The fans were saying "This sucks. They should take notes from Marvel" and they tried to make Suicide Squad into Guardians of the Galaxy, and Justice League into The Avengers. They failed on both counts. Rebooting the Universe, especially at this point, shows a tremendous lack of creative thinking, and would only cause more problems than it would solve. The "Snyder taint" as you call it gave us a Superman who uses his abilities to help others because he wants to and who can find hope in absolute despair. His Batman is one who knows beyond a shadow of a doubt, from first hand experience, that he must follow his rules against killing, no matter the situation. His Wonder Woman saw the worst of humanity and was even corrupted for a time by it, yet she still believed humanity was worth protecting and refused to raise her sword against them.

A reboot erases all of that and, having seen what the studio does when it has control of the films, it will replace it with puppet versions of the DC heroes who perform heroics because they are supposed to and will tell jokes and do action scenes on cue for little reason but because they are supposed to. Think of something akin to Joel Schumacher running the DC Films Cinematic Universe. That's what killing this universe and rebooting it will give us, and after it's failure, the execs will be sitting with you for the premiere of Fantastic Beasts 5 because DC will be dead in film.

I really hope Steve Trevor won't be in this movie, he'll be in the next one that won't take place in the past and Circe brings in back to life to try to stop Wonder Woman.

Since it's set during the Cold War, I really hope we get some cool espionage scenes. The time period has the potential to make this sequel even better than the first film.

Also, I wonder which iteration of Cheetah they will use for inspiration. Maybe a new version as a product of genetic mutation from Russia?
