With
Wonder Woman 84 rushing into production this summer, a new report has emerged from the
Washington Business Journal, courtesy of CBR. Already set for filming in locations such as the Canary Islands and Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesdon, England, the upcoming sequel adds Alexandria, Virginia to it's list. The follow up to the 2017 box office 'Wonder,' starring Gal Gadot & Kristen Wiig, is set to film at the now "shuttered" Landmark Mall in in June, sources tell WBJ.
The location of the 2-day shoot, The Landmark Mall in Alexandria, has been shut down since January of 2017, as owner Howard Hughes Corp. (NYSE: HHC) has plans to demolish the mall interior space and it convert it to an “
open-air urban village,” complete with residences, shops, restaurants, plazas and a 10-screen IMAX movie theater. Major upgrades also are planned for the attached multi-story parking garage. So, I think it's safe to say they won't have a hard time getting a film crew in there! One can only speculate, exactly what kind of shoot does Patty Jenkins and crew have in mind here?
According to the casting report for the Alexandria, Virginia area, Marinella Hume Casting Agency recently issued a call for actors and extras for a “
major feature film” shooting in Northern Virginia and the D.C. area in June of 2018. The call states they are seeking shoppers and tourists, punks, goths, skateboarders, bodybuilders and “fit exercise ladies.” It also urged prospective actors not to cut their hair prior to the open casting call.
Recently, Jenkins confirmed the movie will take place in the 1980s, which is an expected departure from the World War I setting that encompassed most of the first film, so with this casting description and the recent confirmation of when the film will be set, we should be in for quite the scene for Gal Gadot's Diana Prince. As for the villain, Kristen Wiig is set to play main foe Cheetah, with speculation pointing to the Barbara Ann Minerva (the post-Crisis and current Cheetah) incarnation of the character. It hasn't been announced yet if Chris Pine will return as Steve Trevor, but it has been rumored that he will make a brief appearance. However, some set photos from a few weeks back may have confirmed he is indeed making an appearance in the sequel.
We can expect Warner Bros. to unveil plenty of details about Wonder Woman 84 at SDCC in July, (hopefully) along with plenty of information about James Wan's (Saw, The Conjuring) upcoming Aquaman, which will hit theaters on December 21 of this year, and David F. Sandberg's Shazam!, opening on April 5, 2019.
What do you guys think this scene will have in store for Diana?
