WONDER WOMAN Director Patty Jenkins Reveals Why The Movie Had No After-Credits Scene
Wonder Woman was released less than six months before Justice League so why didn't it feature an after-credits scene setting up the events of the highly anticipated DC Comics adaptation? Find out here...
Wonder Woman featured present-day bookends but apart from a nod to Diana Prince's friendship with Batman, those did nothing to set up the character's future in the DC Extended Universe (and specifically Justice League). Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had no after-credits scene but Suicide Squad included a stinger featured a tense exchange between Amanda Waller and the Caped Crusader.
So, where was Wonder Woman's extra scene? In a new interview to promote the release of the movie on DVD and Blu-ray, director Patty Jenkins explained why she's not really a fan of this sort of thing.
"I’m not always a believer in post-credit scenes. I feel like they make sense if the films are extremely similar. I think if you know the next movie is going to be set in the same world or have the exact same tone, then I think it makes sense. To me, it does not make sense to have a commercial for a completely different style of movie in the credits of another movie. One of my favourite things about the DC Universe is they were super supportive of me doing my own tone, but there’s no other movie that they have that’s of the same tone. So it just felt weird to do some other crossover. Also, the end of the movie was the end. It wasn’t, ‘Tune in later for more.’"
It that a dig at Marvel Studios? Alan Taylor made it clear when Thor: The Dark World was released that he wasn't happy with Guardians of the Galaxy getting a nod because it was so vastly different in tone to his movie so you can see where Jenkins may be coming from with these comments. Despite that, it still feels like something of a wasted opportunity not to use Wonder Woman to tease Justice League!
