When James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed DC Studios' DCU slate - named "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" - there was no real mention of Wonder Woman. Despite confirming that Superman and Batman would be recast, both executives played coy when it came to Gal Gadot's future as Diana Prince.
Prior to that, we'd learned that they had pulled the plug on Wonder Woman 3 due to it not fitting into the vision they have for the DCU. A Max TV series set on Themyscira is in the works, of course, though that's expected to be set hundreds of years before Diana was born.
With two-thirds of the Trinity being replaced, it's beginning to feel increasingly unlikely that Gadot will continue playing Wonder Woman, especially as the actress is already 38. A younger Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne are being cast, so ultimately, it might not make sense for the Justice League star to return alongside them.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, however, Gadot seemed to leave the door open...at least a little.
"Things are being worked behind the scenes," she tells the site, "and once the right moment arrives, you'll know about it."
That's either a promising update or a clever way to deflect the question! It's hard to say for sure, though we're sure this will give many of you renewed hope when it comes to Gadot's future as the Amazon warrior.
If she is about to bid farewell to the role, then the actress at least got to go out on something of a high after Wonder Woman 1984 drew a mixed response. As well as a cameo appearance in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Gadot shows up for a scene-stealing moment in The Flash as well.
Do you think we need a new Wonder Woman for the DCU reboot?
