Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige Praises WONDER WOMAN And Laughs Off Marvel Vs. DC Rivalry
Kevin Feige talks here about the recent success of Wonder Woman and shares his thoughts on the supposed rivalry between Marvel and DC as well as what their success means for the MCU's future...
Online, there exists a very real divide between Marvel and DC Comics fans. Each group seems to take delight in the rival company's failings (not that Marvel has too many), so you'd be forgiven for thinking that Kevin Feige might be happy to see the likes of Suicide Squad disappoint and upset when a movie like Wonder Woman flourishes. However, the Marvel Studios President has now made it clear that there is no rivalry between the two companies and even revealed his friendship with Geoff Johns.
"There’s not really a rivalry. The rivalry is much more amongst the press, I think. Geoff Johns is a very good friend of mine," Feige said of the DC Films boss in an interview with the folks over at AlloCine. "We grew up together in the business and recently celebrated Richard Donner, who we both used to work for. So, I applaud all the success he’s had. I really just look at it as a fan. When the movies perform well and are well received, it’s good for us – which is why I’m always rooting for them."
One such is Wonder Woman. The movie restored faith in female led superhero blockbusters, good news for Marvel when they have Captain Marvel, and possibly even Black Widow, on the way.
"The success of Wonder Woman is wonderful. It makes us incredibly happy. Finally, we can put to rest the falsehood that audiences don’t want to see female characters. We never believed that was true. There were a run of movies that just weren’t very good 10-15 years ago that caused that reputation. I’m glad that Wonder Woman has blown that away."
