UNDERWORLD Actress Kate Beckinsale Reveals Why She Turned Down The Role Of WONDER WOMAN
Though Kate Beckinsale wasn't in the running for the 2017 Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot, she was on Warner Bros.' radar for a very different incarnation of the character well over a decade ago...
Underworld star Kate Beckinsale has been a lot of fans' first choice to play Wonder Woman for many years now, and it turns out she was actually up for the role at one point.
Though she wasn't in the running for Patty Jenkins' current theatrical outing for the iconic DC heroine, Warner Bros. wanted Beckinsale to play Diana over 10 years ago when Joss Whedon was at the helm - however, having read the script, the actress decided to pass.
During an interview with Yahoo!, Beckinsale suggests that she simply wasn't very impressed with the material... in the nicest possible way.
"The incarnations that I was seeing were… [after a pause] They weren’t this one [the 2017 film].” [Also], I don’t know if I was desperate to be in a leotard. I’d already done the rubber trousers. You have to take in that you have a child at some point and how much could you possibly embarrass them.”
Now that we have our big-screen Wonder Woman, fans have begun championing Beckinsale as a new version of Catwoman for the DCEU.
Is that a possibility? Well, let's just say she's well aware of the interest. “There’s also a very big alternate universe where I’m Catwoman," she adds. "There’s a lot of that.”
