Hippolyta’s tale told to young Diana was one of the highlights of Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman. Her story was illustrated by the sequence of moving paintings to help the audience understand the Amazons’ origins and the roots of their eternal conflict with the ruthless Ares.

The scene was brought to life by Platige Image. You might not recognize the studio’s name, but if you ever played any of The Witcher games, you have surely seen their works, as they animated all of the games’ beautiful cinematics. The Polish studio was nominated for an Oscar with their big 2002 debut, The Cathedral. Tomasz Bagiński, the head of the studio is currently working with Netflix to adapt Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny, the beginning of The Witcher saga.

First! On a DC article? Nice.

But for real, this was one of my favorite scenes in the film, and it reminds me of that great intro scene in Watchmen.

One of the best moments in the film. Really loved it!

Although I have to wonder (no pun intended) why Ares corrupted humanity in the first place

That was a cool sequence, but I think it was a missed opportunity to kill off all the gods so early on. Hopefully they can come back in the future.

@TheDayman - I agree. I'd love to see Zeus and the rest down the line

@BlindWedjat - Yeah, it'd be cool to see them as supporting characters in future movies. The Olympians are one of my favorite parts of the Wonder Woman comics, and it'd be a waste not to include them again.

I really hope they lay into the greek mythology with the sequel like the New 52 run did. Ik the gods are dead but that perfectly sets up Hades as a villain with the gods trapped (and maybe trying to escape) the underworld. Id have the sequel be the rebirth of the gods after the defeat of Hades, Diana become the God of War since she did kill Ares once before, and then start the 3rd off with her on the pantheon and have it be about a new God/Titan war that destroys Olympus. Plus theres a ton of potential for crossover with the other mythologies of the Dc Universe with the gods. Obviously Poseidon has or can have ties to Atlantis and Aquaman, Hermes could have ties to Flash (maybe as part of his speed abilities he learned of or how to tap into the speed force, Diana in the comics is always relating Barry to Hermes) and maybe Apollo and the sun God Rao on Krypton were the same person, just little connections like that would be cool. They do need to explain some stuff though as Zeus creating mankind doesnt really fit in the universe at this point since we know theres Kryptonians, Atlanteans, and other races
