WONDER WOMAN Continues To Dominate The Box Office As Patty Jenkins Comments On Women-Only Screenings
The latest BO figures are in, and Wonder Woman shows no signs of slowing down. Plus, director Patty Jenkins shares her thoughts on the "controversy" surrounding those women-only screenings...
Wonder Woman is on track to have one of the most successful theatrical debuts of any modern superhero movie. It turns out the most recent estimates were actually selling the movie a bit short, as it fell only 43%, which is the smallest second weekend drop for any superhero flick since Sam Raimi's Spider-Man back in 2002.
Wonder Woman's domestic total now sits at $206.5M.
In related news, director Patty Jenkins has commented on the Alamo Drafthouse women-only screenings of her film which came in for some backlash recently. Surprisingly enough, Jenkins remains diplomatic, preferring to promote inclusivity than come down on any side of the argument:
“I actually have sort of mixed feelings about all of that only because I do believe in not excluding anyone from anything. And so, on the one hand, I’m so delighted by those screenings and want people to be able to have those screenings. On the other hand I can imagine being offended if I’m excluded from those screenings, particularly because Wonder Woman herself has a very, very passionate fan base, many of whom are me, and many of whom are men who are disenfranchised from their own gender or their own identity. And I would never want to leave them out of anything, you know? … I could switch to either side of the argument, but I certainly think it’s wonderful … there have not been that many female-skewed things and certainly there have been many, many male. So I celebrate that.”
