STRANGER THINGS Star Charlie Heaton Says THE NEW MUTANTS Will Now Be A "Full-Fledged Horror"

We've know since day one that the plan was for The New Mutants to embrace the horror genre but star Charlie Heaton (Cannonball) has now promised that the long-delayed release will fully adhere to that.

When The New Mutants was first announced, we heard that it would embrace the horror elements of the team's comic book adventures but it's now thought that reshoots - which have delayed the movie well into 2019 despite the fact it was supposed to hit theaters TODAY -  are going to make it even scarier. Now, Charlie Heaton (who plays Cannonball) has confirmed it is indeed a full-fledged horror.

"It’s basically about these mutants in a facility for damaged mutants. It’s a story about these characters coming to grips with who they are and it’s a horror X-Men movie, which we haven’t seen before. I feel like, for an X-Men movie, yeah, I think they’re going full-fledged horror. Without saying too much — I really don’t want to give away too much what it’s about, it’s very under wraps — but it is, in terms of anything we’ve seen in the X-Men world, it definitely is a horror film. It’s scarier than anything we’ve seen in that genre."

It definitely sounds like the right direction to take the project in but with the Disney/Fox deal set to be finalised by next summer, it's hard to say whether or not The New Mutants will ever be released. Sure, Fox will start promoting it but the rival studio could decide to pull the movie from theaters and either debut on its planned streaming service or just send it straight to DVD and Blu-ray and/or Digital HD.

As for what we should expect from Cannonball, Heaton added: "Sam comes from Kentucky, and he’s kind of a working-class boy, and he has the ability to project himself through the sky like a cannonball." Well, that may or may not confirm the presence of actual superpowers here, something the teaser trailer didn't even hint at. Are you guys still looking forward to The New Mutants

When it's official and Marvel buys Fox this Summer my prediction is we will never see this movie or the Dark Phoenix.

That's real reason Fox moved the release dates.

@DoubleD

Deal won't be done by the time Dark Phoenix comes out. If they don't release New Mutants - they'll certainly put it on their streaming service. In that case I'll torrent.

@DoubleD - End of summer 2019 not 2018. So yeah Dark Phoenix will be released and also New Mutants (maybe DTV). It will be so stupid to not release movies that are finished.

I know it is hard to hear that for people on this site but Disney didn't buy Fox to get back the X-Men, Deadpool or Fantastic Four, so if they can make money (even a little) with theses movies they will.
