Dark Phoenix was a critical and commercial disappointment, and the final
X-Men movie released by Fox before the rights returned to Marvel Studios. While it didn't come out that long ago, it already feels like the vast majority of fans have forgotten about the second big screen adaptation of "The Dark Phoenix Saga," but this new concept art from the film is still well worth a look.
In this latest batch, the spotlight is put on the movie's aliens. Originally set to be the Skrulls, they were later turned into the D'Bari (presumably to avoid comparisons being made to
Captain Marvel).
What we got in the film itself was in equal parts forgettable and generic, and any one of these unique and actually rather terrifying designs would have been so much better. As a bonus, we also have some artwork featuring a fiery take on Jean Grey as she unleashes the power of the Phoenix.
All of these are more visually stunning than what ended up on the big screen, and could have genuinely been a sight to behold. Unfortunately, Fox decided to dial back the effects in reshoots.
