X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Intends To "Ground" The Movie So It's Not The Intergalactic Adventure Fans Hoped For

Bad news if you were hoping X-Men: Dark Phoenix would finally deliver a cosmic adventure for the mutant heroes as new comments from writer/director Simon Kinberg point to us getting more of the same.

For whatever reason, X-Men: Apocalypse failed to connect with critics and moviegoers alike and the movie many suspected would earn upwards of $1 billion at the worldwide box office proved to be a disappointment. As a result, Bryan Singer won't be returning to helm the next instalment and writer Simon Kinberg will instead be making his directorial debut with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, a new take on the story he previously dropped the ball on after penning Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand

However, if you thought this would be a faithful adaptation of the story taking the heroes into outer space, it sounds like we can forget that being the case. While it doesn't sound like that's off the table, Kinberg's comments don't bode well for those hoping to see the X-Men head to the Shi'ar Empire.

"[We must] find a way to ground it so it’s not too intergalactic," he revealed before adding that the X-Men movies will remain "human" and "emotional" on his watch. That's both good and bad but probably isn't what a lot of fans were hoping to hear. After all, the problem with Kinberg's first take on the Dark Phoneix storyline was that it didn't take advantage of most of what made the comic great.

We'll have to wait and see but be sure to let us know your thought on this in the comments section.
