21 JUMP STREET Star Channing Tatum Has Met with FOX For GAMBIT Role

"I met with Lauren Shuler Donner," revealed Channing Tatum to MTV (via Slash Film"And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south – my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida – I don’t know. I just related to him. He’s just kind of suave… He’s the most un X-Men X-Man that’s ever been in X-Men. Other than maybe Wolverine, who’s like the anti-hero. He’s a thief. He’s not even a hero. He’s kind of walking the line of grey…He loves women and drinking and smoking and stuff so he’s just a cool guy who happens to have a moral center….I hope it [comes together]. You never know it’s a weird industry. If the stars align, I would die to play it. I’m already working on the accent. It’s crappy at the moment." Lauren Shuler Donner, producer on all the X-Men movies, has expressed interest in doing a Gambit movie wth Channing Tatum in the title role. So it's no huge surprise or major deal that the Magic Mike actor has met with the producer. However, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer has expressed interest in using Gambit in the 2016 sequel X-Men: Apocalypse. What do you think?

Booo Taylor Kitsch was a great choice and did a fine job imo with the material given! Gambit is a slim built character and Tatum is to "broad" for Gambit imo

I'm down for Taylor or Tatum to be honest. I could even hear some of Tatum's southern accent at the MTV Movie Awards the other night. I think that they can both do a pretty great job with the role.

X-Men: Apocalypse may be the first X-Men film to NOT feature Wolverine as it just makes sense. Wolverine should be off doing God knows what with Team X during the timeline for Apocalypse.

Lauren Shuler Donner just sees star power and dollar figures for a single film. The difference between her approach and Marvel's is that they see a much bigger picture, which usually results in a better film and more success. Gambit fans aren't going to care that Channing Tatum is in the role unless he pulls a Heath Ledger and owns it, and women aren't going to flock to cinemas just because he's a supporting character in an action movie.

Tatum would be OK, but Donner was a producer on Gambit's first appearance like three X movies ago. Not a good track record. They're just making stuff up as they go.

In there defense, Taylor Kitsch has become box-office poison.

Plus, you guys should be at least timidly optimistic because it kind of confirms the theory that Fox will be getting rid of most of their old cast.

And I'm not a big fan of all the X-Men being so different in ages. If Gambit's like 30 in the 80's for X:A, he'll be pushing 60 when/if they ever get back to modern day. Anybody who appears as their young self in the 80's (Cyke, Jean, anybody else), unless they're toddlers, is going to be 40-50 in modern day.

Who's looking at the big picture in all this??? "The Geriatric X-Men"? Please let there be a reboot before they get back to the current decade. This decade-hopping is different and fun, but it doesn't much help with universe-building.

@Lee I agree. If they want to bring in Tatum, who I feel would be a God awful Gambit, they might as well bring back Taylor. It's not his fault the movie sucked. I think he would be fine with a better script to work with.

He's a decent actor. But only in 1 genre, stupid dick joke comedies. He's a bumbling child. I've never been able to hear him deliver a line that wasn't mumbled or acted so stale, it makes soap opera actors look like... Well... Whatever is lower than soap opera actors. He's not Gambit. Gambit is suave, calm and has a certain sexualized presence to him that towers over everyone like an elephant in a room. He's James Bond meets Ethan Hunt. Picture that for a moment. Sean Connery meets Tom Cruise. That is not Tatum. Now Matt Bomer? Given his character in Blue Collar? Someone more along those lines needs to play Gambit. Hell, get Jared from Supernatural.
