@mountainman - I just realized that if talking about x men, blue lives matters takes on a whole different meaning.

@LeonNova - You're kind of cherry picking members there. The Giant Sized X-Men lineup that launched after the original five went missing also had Sunfire (asian) and Thunderbird (native American). As the 80's rolled on, Shadowcat (Jewish woman), Rogue (woman), Rachel Summers (woman), Psylocke (woman - even though the asian mind in a white body was problematic), Dazzler (woman) and Forge (native American) joined the team. Then in the 90's, in addition to Jubilee (asian girl), other diverse members were Bishop (black man), Cecilia Reyes (latina), Maggott (not sure of his race but he wasn't white), and Marrow (woman). Then, if you want to go into the members from the last 20 years or so, wow it is a diverse bunch. Knowing how the MCU operates, I doubt the first X-Men movie will be featuring just the more legacy white characters. They will mix it up (like the new spiderman movies did). WHy would they change the race of Shadowcat, when they could just have one of the many already non-white characters featured?

@mountainman - I'm cool with it as far as most MAJOR characters go, but SOME characters just need to be left ALONE...

The X-Men characters are ALREADY diverse, and this is coming from an Afro-Latino(myself).

Some characters that I would NOT want to see race swapped: Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Marvel Girl(Jean Grey), Havok, Wolverine, Iceman, Gambit(NEEDS to be Cajun, not CREOLE), Nightcrawler, Colossus, Polaris, Dazzler, and Rogue.

I'm COOL with Angel as Black or other person of color(change the perception of what an angel looks like), I'm ok with Kitty Pryde as Black or other person of color, or even mixed heritage.

@Blastaar - Agreed, although the original 5 were not diverse. They started becoming diverse with the Giant sized roster.

I hope the team for the MCU reboot isn't the original 5, because i know its more likely a swap will happen. We can feel abut this however we want - but I'm pretty confident that they will make Iceman gay since there is precedent in the comics now for that.

See I feel like Angel has to be a blonde blue eyed white boy since he is rich and privelaged. It just makes more sense. I also agree that they shouldn't race swap Jean Grey since red heads always seem to get shafted in these things.

I also feel like Cyclops and Wolverine have to be white (and thus Havok too). I'm less worried about Hank, although I don't think they'd do it since he will be covered. Gambit has to be cajun, as we haven't really gotten that in a superhero movie before. Nightcrawler has to be both german and catholic as those are central to his character. Colossus has to be russian - once again central to character. The rest I'm not so worried about.

I am honestly becoming more open to race swapping Prof X and Magneto - only for the reason that there is no way in 202x that Eric survived the holocaust. It would have to be another genocide or tragic event. I would almost like to see him not black though - only because that seems like all the race swapping that ever happens. What if Erik was Cambodian and got out of Pol Pot's regime? I guess you could keep him European and have him have suffered at the hands of the USSR in Eastern Europe. I don't know. I just think he can't be a Jew that survived the Hollocaust. He'd be 90+ years old!

@Blastaar - Retconning Wanda to be Magnetos daughter would be awkward IMO. Maybe they could claim that the people she thought were her parents were adoptive.

I agree that it doesn’t have to be a real life genocide, but Magneto surviving a genocide - specifically one not aimed at mutants - is a key part of his character and why he disdains humanity. Like I said before, it would be nice if race swaps were not always white > black. They could really make it topic (although I don’t think they’d be this bold) if they had him from the middle east. It does play on the preconceived notions of terrorism that many in the west have.

Sokovia was too recent. He would have been a child. If he’s in his 40s-50s, the genocide would have happened when he was a kid in the 70s or 80s. That’s why I suggested the Cambodian genocide. I’m not aware of many southeast Asian actors that could fit the role though.

Either way - after 2 amazing versions of both Professor X and Magneto, Marvel has their work cut out for them. There will be comparisons.

@mountainman - As far as Wanda & Pietro being children of Magento, that's more drama that we can deal with, which is ALWAYS welcome in story telling.

@IcePyke - Dwayne wouldn't play Colossus because Dwayne doesn't take rolls where he's not the main focus of the movie. Hell, he'd want Colossus to be the main focus of the entire MCU if he took that roll.
