Director Duncan Jones And David Slade Eyed For The Wolverine

With Darren Aronofsky leaving The Wolverine, studio is on the hunt for new director. And it looks like that both David Slade and Duncan Jones are being considered to take that place. More after the jump!

While David Slade is confirmed to direct the Daredevil reboot for 20th Century Fox, there is still a possibility that director will switch that project for The Wolverine, since Darren Aronofsky left the project. There is a mention that studio is also looking for Duncan Jones (Moon), who recently directed Source Code.

From Deadline:

"He has been very hands on developing The Wolverine with screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, and he himself drafted Darren Aronofsky, who exited earlier this month. Jackman and the studio are just getting started on finding a replacement.

I've heard names like Duncan Jones, director of the well-reviewed Source Code, and David Slade, the Twilight Saga: Eclipse helmer who was in the mix before Aronofsky got hired."

I think that Duncan Jones would be a good fit for this if not Aronofsky. But still, Slade could also do great things with it. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

what a combo. fox studios and the twilight director.
as if fox didn't suck bad enough on their own, lets
sprinkle a little twilight dog shit on top. watching
a dog eat it's own vomit for two hours makes for
better television.

has people gone stupid David Slade also directed Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night both of them movies are great. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse sucked cause the story is a load of cr*p anyway.

@ IronAngelX- you may be right, but twilight sickens
me in every way possible. i'm a comic fan,the books
and the movies. i wouldn't want the actors or
director/writer/producer besmerching my movies with
their involvment.

Duncan Jones should not take this job. We don't need another relatively new and apparently talented director taken down by a Wolverine movie. Gavin Hood is back to directing TV movies.

@jazzman: Since both films are from Fox, they could easily give Slade The Wolverine after they discuss on whether or not he is still interested in the project. But I hope Slade stays on Daredevil and someone else takes over Wolverine.

@ IronAngelX...I couldn't agree more!!!

I vote Jones though. How about Danny Boyle? Thinking about it, they have PLENTY of other ones that may need some shine here..

David Slade was also the guy who did 30 Days of Night, and I that was pretty rad. We all make twilights. I mean mistakes. As for Duncan Jones, I haven't seen it yet, but Source Code is at a 90% on rotten tomatoes.

[frick] that douche David Slade. Duncan Jones FTW!!!

Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night aren't great. both are below average at best. MOON and SOURCE CODE kick so much ass.

GOD DAMN IT!! f uck David Slade! what is the big deal with this ass wipe?! twilight and 30 days and nights? ooooooh....that's so f ucking lame...and hugh said he was trying to get someone better than aronofsky! LOL...what a sick joke man...it's pathetic...i ALMOST rather see Michael f ucking Bay direct than this guy...Now as far as Duncan Jones...i've heard nothing but amazing things about his new film "source code" but i haven't seen it yet and i know nothing of his style but i more open minded for him that Slade...DON'T THINK JUST BECAUSE SLADE MADE 30 DAYS THAT THE NEW WOLVERINE IS GOING TO BE A BLOOD BATH BECAUSE THAT ISN'T THE REAL CONTRIBUTION OF A DIRECTOR! c''mon hugh go for someone more prestigious!!

Ok hold on I never said I liked Slade just the guys name. Duncan Jones hasn't done many films, and I'm not sure if he can bring visually to screen what I want to see from The Wolverine.

Slade or GTFO

The point that anyone would be down on him because he directed a Twilight movie is retarded. He doesn't come to McDonalds and tell you that you're a loser and can't work at Burger King. Give the man a break!

Slade is a good director but he would be a real letdown after one of the best directors in the world was previously attached to The Wolverine. Duncan Jones on the otherhand has made two great movies so far in his career and could be an excellent choice for Fox!

Jones should not be comapared to Hood as Jones has already done sci-fi and action to great results where Hood's claim to fame was on the back of a low budgeted independant foreign film.

@StrangerX you're kidding right?

Chewtoy

So the choices are Duncan Jones, who has directed two critically acclaimed sci-fi films, Moon and The Source Code (both have 90% on Rotten Tomatoes) vs. David Slade who has directed Twilight: Eclipse (50%), 30 Days of Night (49%) and Hard Candy (68%).

And people are actually divided over this?

I recently met Duncan Jones at a screening of "Source Code" and he said that he really has no interest in directing "The Wolverine."

Rather, for his next project, he is looking to direct something that he has written himself. He said that he has things he's been waiting to develop and now is closer to getting those opportunities. If I had to guess, it seems like he took SC not only for the paycheck & exposure but what that will lead to, i.e., the ability to give himself the freedom to do more of his personal works.

Now, unless they give him a couple of dump trucks full of cash (the man's not made of stone), I'd say that he is going to stick with his own projects that he's envisioned bringing to life and not someone else's script/film.

Btw, for the record, he was incredibly friendly and gracious, staying long after the screening to sign everything put in front of him and take all of the photos that you wanted. Very nice guy!

David Slade switching to The Wolverine will be awesome, since that means Daredevil is free once again.

They're going to have to make Hugh Jackman look young like Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy since they're taking their sweet ass time making this movie. He's getting old.

we need a director that will not put up with FOX's bullcrap. Some one who will stand up to them and make this a good movie, bot bending to them and changing the story, It is obvious that FOX hates comic books.
