Marvel and Fox have struck action packed gold.....

I'm 45, been a Marvelite for about 32 or so years. Love what Marvel/Fox is doing! Finally, someone understands that a comic book movie is about discovery, heartache, action, goodguys take a beating, bad guys get beat! If you see this movie, two words...ALTERNATE UNIVERSE...love the action, let go of the past...

Review Opinion
By CBMcontributor - May 05, 2009 09:05 AM EST

I have read all the reviews here, almost all of the comments, and I have one question....DO ANY OF YOU HARDCORES REMEMBER THE "WHAT IF?"...Marvel has pride in the fact that they OWN these guys, and they can twist it anyway they want. This movie rocks in one area...IT IS FANTASY....it is an attempt to bring new generations to the Marvel we have loved (and hated) over the years.
This movie hits home with action after action. The special effects were loud and everywhere. They were not trying to re-invent the wheel here, folks, they were trying to entertain......

Here's a tip....GROW UP....graduate or whatever you need to do to get to the real world....ENJOY THIS MOVIE FOR WHAT IT IS....A KICK ASS ACTION FLICK SET IN THE IMAGINATION OF MOVIE-MAKING.....

THANKS MARVEL (AND FOX)for bringing my childhood to life....

Hey if you put in the context of what if, that does make it not suck as hard. Unfortunately, when you make a movie its not "what if" it becomes "what it is". A movie can define and even change comicbook mythos. For instance, wolvies claws. They'd always come from the back of the hand. Enter X1. They think its better and makes more sense if they emerge from between his fingers (which it does).

With the exception of Texeria's version of wolverine in the new wolverine origin #1, every drawing i see of wolverine has his claws emerge from between his fingers. The movies changed the mythos.

So now the general public, which severely outnumbers us fan-people think that wolvie and sabey are brothers fought in every major american war together regardless of the fact that they're canadian joined a superteam with deadpool blob wraith zero? and bolt (beak?) became a lumberjack lost his girl got his adamantium met ma and pa kent got his "costume" from pa kent beat up blob hung out with gambit skipped across the ocean to 3mile island found his girl wasnt dead made a sad face fought sabey they fight "deadpool" or deadcompositcharacterpool and wonder twin powers activate back to back persevere against pool make mad face at sabey gambit save the day for wolvie to lose his memory to a silver bullet cause he's wolferine.

This is now the defined origin of wolverine.

and a very shallow movie at that. Why it struck gold? its Freakin Wolverine... even if Uwe Boll directed the movie, it would have done well in the theaters! Lets see Fox pull those numbers with lesser known characters and lets see how they'll do.

BTW, FOX was behind the creative juices (or lack of) for this one man... not MArvel.

Marvel Studios has produced Ironman and Incredible Hulk. They will make Thor, Captain America, Ironman 2 and Avengers in the near future.

Xmen and their sequels are from Fox. Spiderman is from Sony and if im not mistaken, Blade is from New Line.

I don't care about being true 100% to the comics however the film just had so many issues as a film that it isn't great. Wolverine was just OK and my problems really have nothing to do with the comics. The film had plot holes, bad narrative, spotty CGI, terrible new claw graphics, didn't fit the continuity that it set fourth in it's own franchise and the list goes on and one. The film was entertaining enough that I didn't regret spending 10 bucks, but nothing great about it.

Meh Leee777 I kind of liked the Muppets when I was a kid.

I disagree Lee though that the movies need to follow the exact same path as the comics. In fact I prefer them to be different it breeds creativity and originality. I already read the story a certain way I want something at least slightly new. However if your gonna change things at least bother to make good changes and a good film. I've seen changes that didn't bother me and changes that bother the hell out of me. Sometimes it works some times it doesn't. For instance The Dark Knight made a lot of changes and I mean a lot, but it was in my opinion the greatest comic book movie ever. Iron Man also made changes as did Spider Man one and two and X2 even all of those films were good. It's not as simple as don't change things. Hell sometimes the most faithful movies tend to suck.

Lol STUPIFY_ME @ I just want Comic book movies to honor the source material that's all, yeah you can get away with changes but not the whole movie!!! Heh.

Meh changes don't bother me at all in fact I prefer them. The movies are an entirely different universe hell any comic fan should get that. I mean in marvel main continuity we are on Earth 616, but there are a thousand more universes out there in one of them I bet Wolverine wears a bow tie. I mean who's to say the movies aren't earth 612. Lets be fair breaking away from continuity in a universe that is filled with Time travel and alternate reality's shouldn't be a big deal. Lets focus on the more important things like making a bad film.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 5/6/2009, 7:46 AM
Hence the = BAD FILM bit! ; ) By the way most movies are origin movies and all that Ultimate and alternate Universes things are just that crap! How can you like something thats stomped on at spat on??? Ahhhh who cares, its been made lol, hopefully they have extra, like 30 minutes for a DVD/BR release that might make it abit better and hopefully WOLVERINE 2 will be friggin' Awesome for everyone!!!

It would of been nice if there was more story the movie was just all non stop action I mean the most potentially emotional scene was cut down to about 15 seconds long to make more time for motorcycle chases and explosions.

One thing that has really confused me is that they delayed it to get some more Deadpool shots so before that time I wonder how small his part was because seriously he has maybe 10 mins in the entire film?

i thought the movie was pretty good. No comic book or novel does an perfect big screen translation. you also have to consider all details in a comic or novel wouldnt look good in a movie. some of it would seem a little stupid. like people running around in spandex or the fact that spiderman inventing web shooters and the webbing to go inside them. it made more sense to have him shoot them out of his wrist. plus with all that you have to please the executives first and foremost because without there backing the movie wouldnt get any backing. so i suggest you take the movie for what it was great entertainment and stop nit picking because as long as the movies are making money and appealing to the large audience more comic book movies will be made in the future.

stupify_me - 5/6/2009, 5:10 PM
I wanted to agree with you guardstarr15, but when you say things like "you have to please the executives first and foremost thats the kind of thinking that gets us crap films. Then telling people to stop nitpicking was just insulting. First of all nitpicking is taking small things and complaining. People aren't complaining about small things the film had major issues that certainly are not nitpicking. Second if people don't complain about a film or criticize it's bad decisions the films never improve. If everyone just pretended to be happy with every piece of garbage that came our way than films would never progress and we would have a lot more crap than we do.

Yo Cap, you calling me a retard? wow! that's rich. Attack the comment, not the person... are you incapable of that?

I know Marvel makes money... who ever said they didnt? That wasnt mentioned in that entry bro. All he said was thanks to Marvel and Fox for bringing his childhood to life. He didnt say thanks that Marvel profited from this. Or can you even read bro?

Guardstarr.

Spiderman had organic webbings in the comicbooks (before BND shit came along). And there are perfect comicbook adaptations as well... namely Sin City, 300 and Watchmen. I agree that some comicbooks should be tweaked to be made into a successful film which is what Ironman, Incredible Hulk, and Batman films did. Wolverine on the otherhand was a totally different thing. And everything else i wanted to add, Stupify has already beat me to it.

Watchmen was a great film as was Sin City. Sadly Watchmen didn't get the love it deserved. While I think a lot of people didn't understand it I also think a major problem was poor marketing. It was marketed very well to the fans but the normal everyday joe really didn't get much. I honestly only remember seeing one trailer for Watchmen on TV and it was a week after release and I watch a lot of TV. I had friends who never even knew what it was until it had already came out and they were not hyped no matter what I said so they didn't watch it.
