South Africa first to see Wolverine

South Africa first to see Wolverine

I saw it first - more than two days ago, in Cape Town...

Review Opinion
By CBMcontributor - Apr 30, 2009 01:04 PM EST

I was there. 9 o'clock on Wednesday. I wanted to be the first to see for myself. I've waited for more than a year for this moment. I was especially interested because the director is a fellow South African. So? How did he do? Was it worth the wait?

It was. Every bit of it. If you forgive the massive curveball concerning Wolverine and Sabretooth, and the blatant explanation of Deadpool, which I've never come across in the comics, then it is a very well made, well told, action-packed, blinder of a movie.

In my opinion, it's the best of the four.

Also, I find it amazing that people in America would not want to go see it because of the swineflu. Apparently Barack Obama had to go on national television to soothe the collective American consciousness, which just proves my point that Americans don't really need a President, but a wetnurse, to hold their little hands whenever the smallest of things scares them. Shame. It must be terrible to life in such fear of everything and everybody.

So for those who were thinking of not going, please prove yourself to be better than the drama queens the rest of the world makes you out to be.

It is so worth it.

F**k you! Not all us Americans wait on the poster boy of the media to tell us its alright. Fact is most of us don't care or think it is that big of a threat. Ostrich f**ker! You better watch how you regard Americans since we are the only ones in this world who stepped in between Hitler and him goose stepping in your moms vagina. But perhaps you'd have liked that. You're probably one of those racist bastards who's family went on a hunt for black folks to "tame" in Africa. Don't ever come to America. Furthermore keep your anti-American rants in your Mein Kampf. One last thing dont worry about what your mummy tells you at night, while she is tucking you in your pretty pink little pony bed, about us americans. We are stronger than the media tells her. AND you know she love the american shlong. bit*h

Thanks for generalizing that all Americans are pansies. I'm gonna put you in a group and say that South Africans are f*&king a-hole douche bags that can't mind they business or their mouth. Just to let you know, the media in America is just as stupid as you are. They can't get their crap right.

Well, nothing like a bit of anti Americanism to bring out the gung ho responses. If you didnt like what he said how about letting him know and debating him instead of calling him juvenile names and making yourselves out to be loud mouth morons.

Also, this is not a review of the movie and was clearly only posted on the front page to get this type of reaction. Nothing wrong with that, but it should be posted under a different article heading.

How about "Uninformed South African jerk stirs up Easily bated Yanks";)

Rorschach01 is right, though your anger isn't misplaced. I'm an American, though I don't feel like I was targeted by whoever's rant this is because I know none of what was stated describes me as an individual for starters. From any standpoint, the generalizing of an entire nation of people based on any standard less than personal experience is ignorance. That would be like me saying, because of your rant, all South African people must be ignorant and gullible since this guy here appears to be in this one article that he wrote.

Now on the other side, some of you only reinforce the point with negative outbursts. We're Americans, we should be used to people talking shit by now.

I like how more than half of this post was a jab at the States.

Ha! What I find mildly entertaining is that JohnnyTHM immediately assumes that whoever wrote this is a white South African. Considering that South Africa consists of about 38 million black people and only 4 million white folk, it just goes to show that stereotyping is rife - no matter who you are.

Rorschach01 makes for a good point though - on both sides...

well, this isnt even a review more an example of anti-americanism which is just pathetic. I thought all South Africans hated us British but i guess they're just angry at everyone...maybe its the annoying accents s.africans have, it would drive me nuts!

Oh and living here in the UK, I probably saw it before you so suck on that one you south african idiot!

I for one haven't heard anyone stopping their usual daily activities due to this flu epidemic, honestly the OP of this "critique" is juvenile and pathetic.

Your generalization of US Americans proves to me you're an ignorant jackass, thanks for such a feeble critique of a movie with a blind side sucker punch against a country that had nothing to do with this movie's review.

I mean really man, was that even necessary? What's with all the US bashing? Stop jumping on the "I hate USA" bandwagon and maybe educate yourself.

I don't understand why this is even up. It doesn't do anything but show someone's opinion without any real credibility along with insulting the USA, this shouldn't even be in the front page, remove this dribble.

I'm still trying to understand the intention of this post? Is this some random attempt at trolling? Are you trying to make light of a very serious health crisis? Or are you just making a juvenile statement that "Ha ha, I saw it first!"? If that's the case...
Ha ha I saw it before all you bitches!!!! My wife manages a movie theater!!! HA HA!!
(Whew, I feel better!) lol

Ok it was far much better than the leaked version (polished CGI, some extra footage and better music and effects, cut of crap romantic scenes etc) but not the movie of the year.
Lots of lame and pointless mutants. Still one should go and see for its very much entertaining.
The after-the-credits ending was Wolvie's Japanese bar scene.

Oh crap! Wish t'was some Deadpool material.
Dusst. Anybody? No?

really, make fun of us for not going out when there is a possible pandemic on our hands. there is like a hundred other reasons to make fun of america and you chose the "their dumb because they dont want to die" it hasnt affected my life any so to be honest i this is obviously some iggnorant ass trying to egg us all into an uproar you may not want to make fun of us because if it wasnt for us you wouldnt have your precious wolverine movie also what are like 5 people not going to go see this because of the flu. i just wish you had something better to do then make a statement like that and we obviously arent that bad because we could have made some pretty f'd up statements about you but we didnt because despite what the rest of the world things we still have some respectful people left in this country luckily im not one of those people so i will leave you with this BLOW ME CLOWN!!!!

OK. Firstly i'm a black South African and i'm ashamed by the ass who wrote this "review". You are stirring Sh!+ for nothing yet you want people to watch this, what an idiot. I hope you are a 12yr old otherwise the really is no future.

You are talking crap a lot of the movie needs to be forgiven there's alot of potential but lets get serious. X2 and X-Men were better visually and narratively. Grow Up.

On a side not whoelsebutkevin, the internet is global, we do have adsl and torrents in South Africa so some people did watch the leaked version. We are also living in the 21st century

hey i am a AMERICIAN and yeah our country has some problems but who doesn't right. I am proud to be an AMERICAN.
I took offense at the "wetnurse" comment.
I SOMEWHAT agree with what JOHNNYTHM said BUT on a calmer tone. America is a great country and has steped in to other countries problem for decades and FIXS them we have stuck our AMERICAN BOOT IN FORNEIGN WARS & TERRORIST _ _ _ MANY TIMES AND HAVE HAD SOLIDERS DIE OR WOUNDED FOR IT. SO NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY WE NEED A "WETNUSRE" OR CALL US "DRAMA QUEENS". GO TALK TO A WOUNDED VET A CALL HIM OR HER A DRAMA QUEEN AND SEE WHAT THEY'LL TELL YOU.
am i proud yeah but this post was out of line and a low blow. if you have a movie review stay on topic!

JOHNNYTHM calm down.

I am Native American and there is truth to the wetnurse statement.... i mean the byproduct of a nation that was built on the Death of a people and the rape of the land , you end up with a lot of apathy.

Native American's obviously didn't really care about their land. They would have fought harder. They've been reduced to casinos and middle school field trips.
