Let me start off by saying that I have never been a fan of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. He just simply isn't rugged enough. I could not picture Hugh Jackman getting in a bar room brawl or even drinking a beer (that's not light) or smoking a cigar. Hugh is a pretty boy, a stage actor, the "sexiest man alive", Wolverine is not. Wolverine is not handsome, he's short and hairy. Wolverine doesn't dance, he goes into a berzerker rage and wakes up in the woods of Canada covered in blood.
With that said, I don't feel that "Origins" is going to live up to my expectations. I heard at one point zack snyder was approached to direct but wanted to make the film rated R, but Jackman (not being a true wolverine fan) insisted on making it a PG-13 film. Now is it just me or would a rated R wolverine movie be EXACTLY what us comic fans have been waiting for since the first X-Men film? Wolverine is a rated R character. He has knives attached to the ends of his hands for christ sake! There needs to be a little blood shed!
Now on to the trailer. It seems as though they are hitting most of the spots needed in the Wolverine origins story, canada, Japan, weapon X, etc. but for some reason none of it struck me as particularly... bad ass? The trailer seemed to be lacking action, which I prey is not a sign of things to come, but I doubt it is. The Blob, in my opinion, looks very silly, and I strongly disagree with Ryan Reynolds not wearing the classic Dead Pool mask. Liev Schreiber is a TERRIBLE choice to play Sabertooth. Same problem with Liev as I do with Hugh, he's just not a bad ass. Sabertooth is supposed to be HUGE not equal size to Wolverine. Wolverine is the wolf, Sabertooth is the lion. Their battle has to be epic! Now I would love to see Wolverine fight Sabertooth, but I could care less about a fight between Liev Schreiber and Hugh Jackman. The only casting decision that looked promising was Tayler Kitsch as Gambit. At first I was apprehensive, because I am not particularly familiar with anything Tayler Kitsch has ever done, but I gotta admit he looks the part. Gambit has and always will be one of my favorite characters and I certainly hope Tayler Kitsch does him justice.
Overall it didn't really blow my socks off, but I'll still pay my elevin bucks on opening day just like everyone else.
